Any and all opinions on Cold Steel Black Bear

I've re-scaled a few of them and was surprised to find that the full tang is false. It's actually a stubby stick tang with the full tang welded into place. The welds should hold well, but it makes me wonder if the weld was made before or after heat treating. I was going to ask that question in the Cold Steel forum, but it was shut down before I had the chance. I like the look of the knife, but it feels awkward in my big hands with the subhilt set up.

Thanks Jake, I really appreciate the advise, I can't believe they did that!!! What a fraud, what a crime!!! Today I almost bought the Spike, fortunetly, I found out it was 420 steel before I bought it. CS is dropping down on my list of things to buy VERY quickly.

The sub-hilt knives are ok, IF you have small to medium-sized hands/fingers, and IF you plan on holding the knife at a 90 degree angle in a "hammer grip" all the time...

As far as Cold Steel goes with their "new" steel...I guess we'll all have to take a "wait and see" approach to that one...

(Maybe my recent "switch-over" to REKAT knifes wasn't just by accident...

I have one of the older models with the unsharpened false edege. As to the full tang issure, mine has stainless pins that go through the center portion of the scales which leads me to believe that there is something there to pin to.
The blade on mine is just marked "400 series stainless".
For a sub-hilt with a 9" blade...I like it. It feels good in my hands which are small anyway. I will probably list this one as a "keeper" in my collection. The finish work is excellent.
