Archery season in MI starts October 1. These days I'm spending more time tuning my Darton cams than selecting knives, but my new Ogletree KOP drop point gets the nod. This is the nicest, most comfortable hunting knife I've ever held at any price and I can't wait to break it in. I'm clearing shooting lanes with my Ka-Bar D2 Combat. Yes, the fever is spreading!

Bow hunting is has been my main passion for the last seventeen years. I like chasing the birds with shotgun too, but first choice is usually with the bow.

I usually use my melvin Dunn knife in D2 steel. (when lucky enough to actually kill a deer!) This year however, I have been aching to get some blood (other than my own!) on an old Marbles Canoe model knife I found at a local antique store. It was in bad shape when I found it, so I sent it off to the Marbles factory and they restored it. It still has some minor pitting, but all and all it is beautiful.

Just so happens that I have a pic of it!

The time is right NOW!!!!!
The bulls are starting to bugle and the season opens on the sixth. Four day to zero hour can't take much more. Bow is tuned to a nats hair, broadheads are aligned and flying like lasers.
Knife!! Oh sh*t, I'll just grab whatevers new and laying around. might not even have a handle on it yet. Got some new designs and steel to test.
Paul if your here any word on the test blade???
Anyone (hunters) interested in a slightly used (I'll clean them and resharpen them) test knife at the end of the season if there are any left. I usually sell them in the feild to other hunters I meet or to fish cops at check stops.

I can't decide between the cs master hunter and my new Dozier slim outdoorsman with the red bone handles...but it is soo pretty...
Maybe this will be the year

I sold my bear borcelino and bought the new 2000 buckmaster light. So far I like the way it shoots but very heavy in weight

I'm getting ready here in rural Illinois. 2 8pointers running around out here at the farm along with several does/yearlings and one BIG buck that I have only seen briefly and at a distance. I dress my deer down for the freezer with a custom MadPoet Camp Set with 4.5"semi-skinner and 3" caping/boning knives. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=269728&a=2006217&p=18947993&Sequence=0
In the field I carry a small pouch that includes a lightwt nylon handled Buck folder since any sharp knife will do for gutting. If I wasn't hunting close to home I would carry one of several fixed blades.
knzn, I like your old Marbles. I've got my grandfather's old Marbles Ideal. I used it once on a deer, then put it away for safe keeping.
Good hunting all!

Mike,
Are you headed for the Green Swamp??? I know another MONSTER,,,,MUST be in there

Hunting knife season is in FULL swing here at Blackwood Knives!! If I get a chance to shoot my bow, I will hunt. If knifemaking prevents me from practicing, I'll give the deer a break and stay in the shop!!!
I have several good venison connections anyway

Have a SAFE season everyone!!!

Arkansas season starts oct 1. They may have to postpone if we do not get rain. It is so dry here the cows are giving powdered milk.
Been shooting my recurve and am looking forward to it.
Will carry a folding hunter of my make this year. Will have a backup Sendero hunter incase I do not like the folder. I generally also carry a 9 inch camp knife in backpack.

Oct. 15th is our opening day. My broadheads are flying great. I'm still shooting on the ground, in a week or two I'll be shooting mostly out of stands. I hunt farmland, my wifes cousins farm 2,000 acres which I have the run of, we own 116 acres but its mostly open crop land so I'm pretty lucky in having good spots to hunt.By the way I shoot a swaggered arrow with a fixed 2 blade broadhead and feathers out of a golden eagle bow. I shoot fingers, no overdraw, simple flipper rest, one pin sight.I hunt mostly weekdays like the morning better and my fire dept. work shift and wife allow me to hunt 4-7 days a week
