Any BladePlay on the Spyderco Caly 3.5?

Hey everyone I own a Delica lockback and after use it did NOT result in bladeplay but I was wondering will the caly 3.5 develop it over time?

It is a Spyderco lockback so it has the potential to move a very small amount under a lot of pressure. But that is how it is designed. It probably just depends on the knife you get.

I do not think the vertical bladeplay somehow develops in lockbacks. At least I have not seen that in any of my knives no matter the age and use. It either is there, or not. Or, rather is. Usually quite small. I do not bother - I like backlocks.

Mine locks up rock solid with no blade play in any direction. The Caly 3.5 packs a lot of blade into it's handle...and the blade slices like a demon. On the down-side I find the handle a little too slim for my medium size paws, and while one should never pry with a tool designed exclusively for cutting, the Caly 3.5 blade will not be forgiving if you twist and pry.

A little up/down blade play on my Caly 3.5, which I've read is common. In fact, the Super Blue sprint run of the Caly 3.5 supposedly has it even worse.

None of mine, and none of Delicas that go back further than some folks posting here. ;)

My caly superblue has vertical blade play up and down. More then my year old cf stretch does. Is it enough to bother me ,nope. Like others have said slight up and down on lockbacks shouldn't be a suprise.glam shot

Mine has the slightest vertical blade play, but then i've used the crap out of it.

Both of my Calys; cf zdp and super blue have some vertical play. It hasn't affected the knives performance and I still really like them both, I have never thought about sending them back to Spyderco because they still lock up reliably .

If you wiggle it up and down hard enough you will notice very tiny amount of vertical blade play on lockbacks, I've noticed this with all the ones iv'e had, even new ones, it' the nature of the design i think, nothing to worry about though.

Mine has no blade play at all. The blade did not come perfectly centered though, and the pivot screw did not adjust it at all. Does it rub? No. I love the knife.

Just got mine and it has vertical bladeplay, pretty fail for a 120 dollar blade if you ask me, this will be the second blade I'm going to have to send back to Spyderco... either I'm unlucky or my standards are too high. I could feel the bladeplay when I was cutting my sandwich at work.. WTF! Can't cut bread and meat with out the blade moving... then I'm going to have to send in a 25 dollar check to Spyderco just to have them look at it...ugh.

There's almost none on my CF/ZDP 3.5, and there was some on my Super Blue. It pretty much went away, though, on the Super Blue if you tightened the pivot to the tension that I like.

I forgot to mention mine is the G10 version, I really don't want to send it in but I'm going to have to... it's just unacceptable to feel the blade move when cutting a sandwich. I tightened the pivot and all that did was make the action really poor, it did not fix the bladeplay, some people say they have none so maybe mine was just bunk. I think it would be find if I could feel it cutting wood or thick cardboard but it's frustrating because I just got a g10 BM pika 2 with not a hint of vertical bladeplay and it's ultra smooth. Makes me want to buy more BM.
