Are there any models of Benchmade knives that have the Axis lock and the clip positioned for tip down carry? I have handled a few Benchmades that friends have and I love the smoothness of the Axis lock. I am just not comfortable with a tip up carry knife.

I think underaged may be right. I looked at pbase.com/haveblue/root, a collection of Benchmades, and believe only the 805 and 806 are configurable for tip down.

I have tried this on mine, and found it ackward.

I wasn't comfortable with tip up myself, but I've adjusted.

I did drop the knives onto a carpeted floor a few times to test if they opened, though. The axis knives seem well biased to stay closed, unlike most liner locks I've examined.

The (some?) Aluminum Model 720 (not the G-10 variants) is switchable, although due to the pivot I think it's three way instead of four - right hand tip up or down, left hand tip up only. And early models had no left hand option at all to mount the clip.

really the way the axis holds the closed blade shut i would say the odds of it opening in your pocket are pretty low (low to non-existant), certainly lower than most any liner lock ya care to mention imho, the axis holds it shut pretty well.

i very much prefer tip up vs down myself, but to each there own.

really the 2 knives i have had that were bad about opening in your pocket were both tip down FWIW ,other than my spyderco ATR which had a bad detent, anyway. spyderco gunting and joht singh kalsa were the culprits, due to the horn catching on stuff going into/out of the pocket.
