I spent about 20 years EDC 2 layer thick victorinox... mostly 84mm sportsman and 91mm spartan or tinker...

i bought supertinker since its got a goodsize scissor, and i actually like it... its very comfortable to hold and handle... and its handsome looking SAK... one of the problem is its lack of the glass screwdriver and nailfile which quite handy...

so i bought an explorer since it seem very2 full of features considering the 4 layer thick... put a small glasses screwdriver on the cork screw.. put a needle on the scale and i'm all set... the philips is really GREAT... and the magnifier could be handy...

BUT... its not as comfortable to hold and the knife blade seem very way to the side for some convinient cutting.... even it just add 1 layer more but the size is seem much bigger and add some bulkiness in weight....

i'm not bashing the explorer at all.. i actually like its pack of features... i just curious... any body actually EDC the explorer and how they like it?

please share guys...

thanks alot for your time...

I usually EDC a SAK with 2 or 3 layers, but I noticed that if you carry a model like the Explorer or even a Ranger, you get used to it after some time.

I am blessed with the choice of carrying just about whatever I want to, and I have had an Explorer Plus in pocket for a couple of years now. My folders change almost daily, but I always have the Explorer. For me, its the best available combo of tools, and its small enough that I never notice it in my pocket. The magnifier and screw drivers get the most use, but having tweezers and an emergency pen (and pin) are nice as well. I have tried going with something smaller like a Leatherman PS4, but that doesn't last very long.

Great inputs guys! very2 helpful... hope i can get used to it pretty thick size... any other inputs is sincerely welcome...

have a nice day guys...

I did at one time carry the Explorer in Plus config. I find that a Tinker + Alox Classic is the lighter option that still has most of the capability as I don't need the magnifier. See, when I'm at home with close access to toolboxes, scissors and nailfiles, I don't want to be carrying a heavy pocket knife and I don't want to have to switch knives coming and going from the house. When I leave the house, the Classic is on my keys so I have the scissors and nailfile if needed.

I will add that you can get used to carrying a larger knife. I have pocket carried up to a Champion in the past.

Iyonk, had you considered adding a leatherman squirt to your keychain? I have the new one with the main pliers and small scissors. It also has a nailfile which you wanted and believe it or not, the phillips driver has a fine enough point to also fit my eyeglasses screws (I know you are wary of the tweezer suggestion ;)) You could also go with the S4 to get a dedicated eyeglass screwdriver and it has more robust scissors than any SAK.

Or find a Yeoman (its not that hard). All the great things about an explorer, with one less layer due to the combo tool, but you do lose the small pen blade.

I can't carry an Explorer any way but in one of the nice leather belt pouches they sell... too thick for my pockets! Great knife, though.

BTW-- I bought the leather pouch that comes with the neat little knife steel. I've never tried to use it but at the very least, it's a neat conversation piece.

Stay sharp,

*I think* my aunt gave me this one in 1985. I used to EDC it with jeans but I really prefer it inside a small bag.

leatherman aint as available as victorinox in my country adam.. and they charge 2-3 times the price becouse of the tax... thats why i stay with victorinox.... i only got 1 leatherman, and its actually the first model thy made which isnt as comfortable as the recent models.

honestly, most of the use of glasses screwdriver isnt just for mine... but alot of the situation is for my friends that got loose glasses... lots of glasses rescued by that small glasses screwdriver hehehe...

thanks for the sugestions guys...

I like Explorer or Yeoman right After Alox soldier. Explorer is bit thick but you get soon used that.

tools wise, the explorer is perfect for me.... but its true that 2 or 3 layer is more pocketable...
