is it just me?

or is that basically the same knife

Get the pitchforks! Fire the torches! Close all the shops on the mall! Shut down the three-ring circus! To arms, men! To arms!

The Gerber can't hold an edge. I've owned one. I practiced sharpening convex edges on it, and I suck at sharpening convex edges, so you can kinda infer how much I cared for that knife...

OK, they look similar. Two low end knives that resemble one another.

The real question is "Does anybody care?"

They are similar, not dead ringers.
They are low end knives. Many low end knives resemble one another.

I don't care if they resemble one another, YMMV.

Seems like that would serve as a rather appropriate response to your "Corrosive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" thread in Prac/Tac as well.:p

I care, Frank. So do quite a few other people I know. The knives have more than just a "resemblance," in my opinion. In fact, the Evo was "the straw that broke the camel's back" for me. I have not supported Gerber in any way, shape, or form since, and will never again.:thumbdn:

Yeah, quite a bit of controversy when it was introed

Indeed, I remember that.

Just a guess , but I bet CRKT cares , and I bet Uncle Kit does as well.

:thumbdn:

Well said, JTW! Kit and CRKT were upset by that, and rightfully so! I remember Dexter Ewing talking about having taken some of the CRKT guys over to Gerber's booth, at SHOT Show, a few years back, when Gerber introduced those Evos, to show them the similarities between the knives.

Regards,

Well in that case, I stand rebuked.

Not to worry. Haven't bought a Gerber for some years now and am not likely to in the future.

These two are also alike.

CRKT tends to have quite original designs, and that is part of their marketing.

Copying designs at whatever the price of the product is still 'unpleasant', and reflects 'poorly' on the copier.

I did notice, when I got an Evo Jr. free with an online order two years ago. I noticed that same situation in a lot of others as well. Nowadays, I research each knife I buy, before I buy it, so I know I'm not getting a knock-off.

I still buy used, cheap knock-offs at flea markets, etc. just to mess around with them; mainly to practice different sharpening styles, destruction tests, that kind of thing. I don't buy them for use, though.

thx - cpr

As much as I have to admit there aren't too many things you can put into a knife to make it unique without falling into ridiculous, some models from different brands are waay to similar.
