As far as I know all knives are good to go as long as they are not 'concealed'. My one question is around 'knuckle dusters' on knives. Legal or no?

Regards,

Tim

hey tim
no concealed
no knuckle guards
no autos
no push daggers
no double edged
these are the ones i am aware of

what is considered as concealed? is carrying around a folder in my pocket considered as concealing a 'weapon'?

or

does it only apply to situations where your blade is in some other form like a lighter or something?

thanks

No Balis.

As for concealment thats up for interpretation. Mode of carry is really not much of an issue anyway for most people.

Would anyone be able to tell me if an assisted opening kershaw blur would be illegal in Canada?

There was a customs ruling November 18, 1999 Number TRS 167287 that knives using the Kershaw "speedsafe" technology are not prohibited. That makes sense because opening assist doesn't really "open" the knife but simply completes the operation once the knife has been opened manually.

But you should still be wary. That ruling is not the same thing as a binding criminal law precedent, it may not apply to other mechanisms or even to a mechanism that can malfuncion or be manipulated to "open" a knife, and whatever the law might be, an LEO or a Crown can still make your life miserable.
And this isn't a legal opinion.
Up here in The Great White North, you pays yer money and you takes yer chances.
Ain't democracy grand?

First off, a knife is a tool, it is NEVER a weapon. When the officer asks if you have any weapons, the answer is "I don't have any weapons sir, but I do have a small pocket knife in my back pocket/fixed blade, sheathed knife on my right hip which I use in normal daily chores".

Here is the guvvmint statutes in legalise

Here it is again without the 'fluff'.

This is excellent, is written by BC Police based on statute law and includes pictures.

Why technically? They are specifically listed and prohibited. That's the short answer. The actual legislation ("Orders") has been posted a couple of times and you can find it in the Criminal Code, which is easily available on the net.

Why really? That's more difficult.
Like "switchblades", push-daggers, throwing stars and several others listed in the legislation, Parliament was persuaded that these devices have no legitimate purpose except as a weapon and therefore they should be prohibited outright. Maybe they saw too many B movies at the drive-in, I dunno. There never has ben any serious analysis or debate about these things. Usually there is some unfortunate event, or series of incidents. The media play them up (as they are doing now in Toronto) and some politician or party takes advantage of it to show they are "getting tough on crime", instead of actually doing something about it, like reforming the judicial system or properly funding police and proper social programmes.

No debate butterfly knives are prohibited in Canada, it state that quit clearly in the crimminal code.
A lot of things are banned here for no good reason at all

As he said. A lot of things are illegal and should not be IMO, but things are the way they are, and you can't always do what you want. So just stay legal, or at least borderline, and you won't have problems.

Also, CHECK YOUR CITY'S LAWS ABOUT CARRYING KNIVES. Those are different from town to town.

Are Hide Away Knives illegal? (Apart from the dangerous-sounding name).
