Any chance of a Sage in a steel other than S30V.

While Spydercos wonderful S30V is all the steel I would ever NEED, I sure do like to try new things out. I am pretty sure the Sage 1 (haven't held one judging by looks) is what I consider the perfect EDC for me and I would love it in something really neat like CPM-154 as I don't recall Spyderco ever using this steel.

So Mr. Glesser how about a Sage 1 sprint (I like the liner lock the best) in CPM-154 @ 60-61 hrc!!!!!

Sage series is about the locks, and paying tribute to those involved...while I understand that they are great knives, and would likely jump at any variants they released, I highly doubt we will see any.

Hi Patrick,

We probably wouldn't make that change on the Sage series. We're trying to follow the theme of the project. We could consider 154 for other models, but frankly, we've kind of dropped the 154 in favor of the other options.

My guess is that any change would be S30V to CTS-XHP. The Chaparral line which highlights a unique handle instead of an individual, but really the same knife switched from S30V to XHP. Spyderco is using a lot of XHP lately esp. on newer models from Taiwan in particular.

I believe the original intent was for the Chaparral series to use CTS-XHP exclusively. Spyderco used S30V on the initial runs of the CF Chaparral, rather than delaying its introduction, because XHP wasn't available. The latest run of CF Chaparrals are XHP.

Thanks, good to know. Wishful thanking making. Not the biggest fan of S30V.

The flipper model of the Sage comes in CTS-XHP, so you could go with that:

The Domino is on the radar for sure. I just love CPM-154 in every single knife I have used it in and given that Sypderco pushes steels a lot more than just about any other production company I thought it would be a good fit. To me CPM-154 is what VG10 has always wanted to be.

Ha! Took the words out of my mouth. If the Sage I & II had a baby with a birth defect, who grew up eating his Wheaties, that would be the Domino. :P

Hmmm, let's see.

Sage 1 (CF) + Sage 2 (titanium) + birth defect (flipper) + Wheaties (size increase) = Domino

Yessir, the math checks out. ;)

I don't know if it's just me, but I actually prefer Spyderco's VG-10 quite a bit over any 154cm I have tried. In my experience VG-10 is also much more rust/corrosion resistant. Not a bad move at all. However, I would love to see CTS-XHP be a staple in the Spyderco lineup :)

I have personally had the exact opposite experiences. The CPM-154 I have used is better than VG-10 in every way possible. Now keep in mind I am not talking about 154cm but the powdered version of that steel. Although I do like how Spyderco does VG-10 but I feel CPM-154 is just a better steel. I am sure I will be the only one in this camp but I also prefer CPM-154 to CTS-XHP.

I don't think there are any CPM-154 Spydercos. The Mainx 2 is the only knife I can think of off the top of my head that uses 154cm. I love CPM-154. My Strider SNG is the only member of my collection to have it though. I need to pick up on of those CPM-154 Kershaw Blurs.

I do as well. I am not complaining about XHP. It's a good quality and it seems pretty clean, and takes a nice edge easily but I really do like CPM 154.
