I use and really like Becker BK-7, Ontario RAT-7 D2, Ontario RD7 (1/4" thick) outdoor knives. Any chance of Spyderco making one like this style? In VG10 steel and FRN handle?
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).

The only thing they've had with their name on it, similar in blade length, is the Forager. Hossom-designed fixed blade, recurve, introduced a while back. Great outdoor knives, made in Italy, IIRC. No FRN, though.
Whether they'd design another, with a straight edge, is hard to say. I had a Forester (9-1/8" blade) and only carried it once. Beautiful knife, but way too big for woods carry, for me anyway.

That "niche" is already covered by so many other companies, I doubt Spyderco would try and get in on it. Spyderco excels are making folders, althought a couple more fixed blades wouldn't be a bad thing to keep a decent balance.
Ask Becker, KaBar, ESEE, Busse, SWKW, and SYKCO that question. They will say yes I would think, since none of them make make tactical folders (maybe KaBar does or did). Sal has stated to some extent that there are already companies that have that market/niche covered, no need to jump in there. Is an outdoors, camping, bushcraft, utility knife with some tactical features really a "niche"My friends all think folders (every day carry) are #1 and this type of knife is #2 most needed. I like in smaller more rural States and not NYC type populated area.

I have the Rock Salt, which the Schempp Rock replaced. It is a terrific multipurpose knife, and a better "fighter" than the vast majority of knives sold for that purpose. Also, if you look carefully at the weight, it's extremely light for its size. The Schempp Rock is a screaming deal at about $140.

RevDevil is right on in this assessment. The only way to get a leg up is to offer something not already being sold somewhere else. 1095/1095 cro van, now lately 5160, 52100/SR101 etc. are everywhere. Making inroads into this market segment seems pretty near impossible to me.
You would need a superior steel at a very good price along with some serious marketing. I'm not going into steel suggestions yet, sizes etc, until I see the knife, it's design specs and it's intended purpose.
It would be fun designing one in a very high performance steel though.
I need to look up SYKCO as I have not heard of them and thanks for the tip. SWKW is just a retail store not a knife maker? Kabar/Becker and ESEE I know of. Busse only seems to sell $600 knives.
The SwampRat Rodent 7, Scrapyard (SYKCO) 7-11, and Busse SARGE 7 should be pretty much what you're looking for. The Rodent 7 hasn't been released yet, and the SARGE 7 should be available in a cheaper version in the future. Usually there's a bead blasted, micarta handle version that's the cheapest.
