Any chance of getting a holeless ATR?

I like cobra hood alot, and I would like to see if there's any chance someone could bypass the hole drilling process for me.
Please let me know. I'd be really happy if I could get an ATR like that.
thanks.

Spyderco has only produced one unholey folder - the original Jess Horn C27.

I don't think you will see another.

The Cobra hood works well because 3mm of your thumb is in the hole. If there was no hole, it would have to stick out farther to work as well.

I own the Salsa, and personally, I think the hood is plenty to open the blade. Unless the blade on the ATR is thicker, in which case there would less area of the hood to push on.

Hi Walking man. It would be most difficult to do as the hole in the pivot and the opening hole in the blade are tooling locations.

We appreciate the thought and inquiry.

What would be the advantage other than perhaps in appearance?

you could also make it a plain edge and you would have a blind toothless ATR. Just kidding.

Actually there is a purpose. It might be a bit of a stretch, but you never know. Alright, having a smoother surface should allow me to catch hood a bit better. With the Salsa my finger sinks into the hole and my fingernail rubs agains the hood. I just think it would be a bit more comfortable for me, possibly no one else, but if it's ever offered, I'd dig it.
BTW, on my Salsa there's a lot of area to catch the hood. It's bigger than than Emerson's thumdiscs, and you don't see holes needed on those. In fact, Emersons are hugely praised among Policemen because they are easily opened with gloves on. I hope I've given you something to think about.
thanks for reading, Sal. :)

IIRC the hood on the ATR has a lower profile, meaning that the problem you ecounter on the Salsa could be solved anyway.

What about the Solo Buttonlock? Sal's own baby. And I remember the Spyderco Backpackers too...

These are produced by G. Sakai, not Spyderco. This might seem like splitting hairs, but I think it is correct since only Spyderco (not Sal) has the trademark on the round hole.

The Backpackers were designed & produced by G.Sakai. Spyderco is the US distributor for G.Sakai.

The Solo brand is owned by Spyderco. It affords us the opportunity to design a "hole-less" model. Spyderco folders will have round holes for one hand opening. It is our trademark.
