Any Chance of the Models 640 & 650 Rebirth?

Two of my all time favorite Benchmade models are the two Benchmade Boguszewski Spike models i.e. the models 640 & 650. I EDCed a Benchmade Boguszewski Spike model 640 off and on for almost 17 years. I've been holding out hope that Benchmade might either do a Sprint Run of those two classics or to even give those classic models another chance in the main line up.

It would be so nice to see those Spike models back again with a newer/better blade steel and even possibly another handle material. Albeit I could live with the anodized, aircraft aluminum handle that it originally had. Those two models in M-4 or M390 would be a dream come true for me. The original models had nice liner locks but they would be super with the improved Axis lock for sure.

I bet I'm not the only one that has fond memories of those two models :)??

I recently picked up an auto Spike......just an incredible knife!!
The only down side, on mine, is no pocket clip.
Very cool design and a flat out coooool knife!!!
I would LOVE to see a couple of newer versions! Think M390 and CF or some cool colors in G10.

Oh yes the model #1000 Auto-Spike  Yeah I had two of those myself. But later I pretty much just carried the Model 640 which became one of the all time favorite EDCs ever. Spyderco had a model similar to the model 640 which was the model C-50 Centofante. It had a blade with almost the same geometry and it also had an ATS-34 blade just like the BM Boguszewski Spike model did.

I think that the Auto-Spike had G-2 blade steel if my memory serves me well. Phil Boguszewski died about 5 or 6 years ago but I really loved many of his designs. It would be so nice if we could see even at least a Sprint Run of any of the three of those Boguszewski models.

Hey JD!!
It is my only Benchmade w/o a steel designation.
Knife is so slim, so comfortable in hand, so sexy and has amazing auto action!
Got lucky finding one NIB and pounced on it!!
Need to find an ice sheath for it now as there is no pocket clip.

I've actually been looking for one of those Auto-Spikes for some time now myself. I lost one of my Model 640 BM Spikes I believe while taking a ride on the Kansas City bus system :o I'm sure some lucky smuck got himself a nice EDC folder . They probably didn't even know what they found

But I also had two of those 650 models ( the bigger 4 inch + bladed model) and like an idiot I traded both of those to fellow Spyderheads thinking I could get one back anytime I wanted it :o Then they all disappeared from the landscape. I'm really surprised you found one NIB ( especially the automatic version ).

But if Benchmade were to do some Sprint Runs like Spyderco does on a regular basis then the Boguszewski Spikes and the Kodiac Skinner models would be two great all time BM classics to consider. With all the newbie hardcore Benchmade fans out there now I doubt if even 5% of them are even aware of those models  I'm surprised that you're the only respondent I've had to the thread thus far. Because those Spikes truly had a cult following at one time ( especially in the early 2000s).

Congratulations are in order for your score of the AUTO-SPIKE. Now do keep me in mind if you're ever up for a trade :)

Ummmmmmm let me think about it........NO!!!!!!!

Hey Dude!! that's just flat out cruel!!! getting my hopes up like that even though it was for just a nanosecond :D Hey I don't blame you at all because those Spike models are getting about as rare as a "hen's tooth" or even an honest politician for that matter :D

I never had a pocket clip on either one of the AUTO-SPIKEs I ever had either. I don't know if Phil Boguszewski passing away would prevent them from doing a Sprint Run or not ??

That 640 model was the best splinter picker, ice pick, redneck surgical scalpel, Arkansas Toothpick of a knife that I ever owned>> and I want another one really bad too >> but I would rather have it in a newer/better blade steel. The handle material is negotiable although Titanium wouldn't be a bad choice>> what do you think???

Ti or CF would be incredible!! I wouldn't even mind a nice colored G10. Auto or manual! Would M390 be asking too much??
Benchmade does M390 beautifully!!
Love the blade shape!! It's also nice and thin! Hell of a slicer!!
We can dream, right?????

Very interesting that you would mention M390 because my main EDC at this time is a Spyderco M390 Military model and I've been extremely pleased with it. I guess there are newer/better blade steels than M390 but I'm telling you that I've had nothing but excellent results with M390. I've heard that Benchmade also has a very good heat treatment for M-4 too>> but my first pick would be M390.

I love G-10 handles so that would be cool with me. I was thinking about Titanium because the original model 640 & 650 models had T6061 Aircraft aluminum handles and I believe Titanium would even be better. I always thought that metal handles really worked nice on the Spike models myself which is why I would love to see them in titanium>> but if they wanted to do a Sprint Run with G-10 you wouldn't hear me complaining at all.

Also the Spike models were blades that I actually liked them in combo-edge. Normally I'm not a big fan of combo edges but those Spike models did good with combo edges IMO.

Love it!!! 2 of my carries are a 581 and a 586!!!!
Both M390!! Also have a 908-1401......M4!! Amazing knife!

No disagreement here>> Like I said earlier M390 would be a great blade steel for a Spike Sprint run. M-4 would be good too but I would prefer M390 especially with the great luck I've had with my current EDC blade.

Carbon Fiber wouldn't be a bad choice for handle/scale material but I think Titanium would be the creme-de-le-creme for the Spike models IMO.
