Not like the second batch but the more Smatchet like, bigger, heavier, first run batch.

I'd even like it more with the little hook on the pommel and a half sharpened upper swedge.

Who's with me?

To some the Smatchet is a running joke, to others it is a uniquely styled, fully functioning weapon and tool. I'm in the latter group, and would be very interested in a limited run of heavy bladed Valas from HI. The only current Smatchet options are discontinued Bokers on the secondary market (with high prices), vintage WWII models (with extremely high prices), a Cold Steel clone (reportedly to be crafted with a thin unSmatchet-like blade), and the occasional used Clax. Perhaps the HI Vala wouldn't sell a huge amount of units, but it would certainly fill a niche for some Smatchet enthusiasts.

I held something very similar to that at Aunties. Can't say its the exact thing but durn close. It was very interesting, super heavy duty, a beautiful beast of tool.

Wow, I almost did a follow up last week on my SV. What a beast. You draw that monster, and you mean business:D

It is certainly a dream of mine to own one.

A Smatchet is no joke if designed for fighting.
This is a real battle blade with a rich history.
Below fig. shows close in blows with it by W.E. FairBairn (the designer).

This Smatchet reminds me of a smallish Philippine Barong.

HI Spear Vala by Bhakta Kami. Rajkumar will make few HI Vala in Septermber.

Those are some great pictures, SCR. Are those WW2 British paratroopers? I wander who was issued the smatchets during the campaign.

Man, those Barongs are just awesome!

Those who denigrate the Smatchet as a "latrine digger" or "sharpened shovel" speak from ignorance and have no knowledge of the design's history or prowess as a fighting tool. Next to a high quality kuke, the Smatchet is as formidable a bladed weapon as there is. I own a full sized Boker, as well as the mini-model, and it casts a very intimidating profile ... one that I would not want to be on the receiving end of in a CQB situation. From everything I've read on this forum about HI's impressive craftsmanship, I hope to get a place in line for the September re-issues.

Primal! Thats awesome! count me in! I suppose they are hardened same way as traditional Khuks but on each "belly"? You could take down a wild boar with that strapped onto a piece of cedar pole.
