Any changes to the AXIS-lock?

Just wondering if BM's tweaked the lock any on recently produced models like the 520. Maybe they've worked near all the bugs out?

Don't really hear too much about problems with the AXIS-locks, asides from maybe some lateral play (bronze washers seem to help; don't know if this is really a problem, though, because this is only if you "flick" the knife) and broken Omega springs (haven't heard of one of these in some time either).

I just got the BM806D2. I believe my older AFCK and 710HSSR have the Teflon washers. I like the Bronze washers, feel they are more solid. Also I noticed my BM806D2 is might quieter when it locks up, MUCH quieter. It's very stealthy. It's a very solid knife with a great grip.

I know there've been several changes made throughout production, e.g. the changes in the 710, use of bronze washers, etc., but wondering more about the most recent models and any changes in the lock geometry.

For the most part, both smaller knives, like the 921 Switch, and larger knives, like the 806D2 AFCK, can flick easier than the 710 series. Don't know why. It's odd.

I think the lock geometry (i.e. the "cam") changes with each knife.

The 940 series is extremely smooth; the 520 is actually rather rough and stiff. I removed the washers and buffed them as well as the "cam" portion to a high shine and it still has some stiffness. Grittiness, no. Stiffness, yes.

There is now no lateral play when I tighten the pivot down.

I think the only major change between the early, 710-era designs and the current ones is with the "passthrough gate" for the AXIS bar to be easily removed through one of the lightening holes.
