hi, I just saw this on the newgraham site? looks interesting - does anyone have any comments about this model, and the GIN-1 steel?
thanks!

I had a Blackhawk and thought it was a heckuva great knife. the handle felt great in my hand, it had a pretty broad spine on the blade and I loved the blade shape. I had a hard time getting it to take an edge I was satisfied with when I first got it, and had it professionally sharpened by a friend that said he'd put a twenty degree edge on it, to be SURE it was sharp, and man was it ever! I once sharpened it on my Sharpmaker, and went to see if it was nice and hair popping sharp...imagine my surprise when I accidentally filleted a small layer of my skin with it.

Overall, the knife felt great, and it must have had a magical heat treat of some sort. That Gin-1 steel with the twenty degree edge seemed to hold better than some of my ATS-34 blades. Go figure that one, eh? I'm sure it was an over active imagination, but irregardless it held a good edge and felt terrific in my hand. Also due to the lack of steel liners it was very light and easy to carry.

Overall, I kinda miss the knife. My one complaint would be the tip-down carry, but you know that's an apples and oranges kinda thing.

for $55 or $60 bucks, it's hard to go wrong in my humble opinion.

Played with one once but never owned one. I had a brand new AFCK at the time and they felt pretty similar to my hands so I just stayed with what I had (very poor at the time).

Had a bunch of old Spydies with Gin-1 steel and never had any problems with rusting or edgholding. My girlfriend has an ancient pink Delica that has taken more abuse than I care to even think about (had it for about 8 years now) and it keeps a good edge and has not chipped or lost its tip even though I have had to straighten it twice.

The Blackhawk seems like a nice knife. The slightly revamped ones on the Spyderco website look interesting....:D
