It's not that I'm disatisfied, just wondering if there is any comparable for less, or if I should just break down and buy more Filson socks.

I have tried about 3 others brands of wool socks, but they have seemed cheap and poorly constructed, though priced similarly. They where the ones advertised in a travel catalog and I think one other was Fox.

Try Smartwool. I have sets of Hikers that are at least 4 years old. The Light Hikers last me only about 8 months. Great socks.

Hey Guys...

Try Bass Pro Shops Ultimate wool sock..

The a Frigging awesome.. Very comfortable, $10.00 a Crack and they are Absolutely lifetime warranty.. You wear them out,, poke a toenail through them just bring them in,, or send them back and they'll hand you a new pair...

Smartwool. The most comfortable best made socks I have ever tried. I have convinced several people of this, try a pair, you will be convinced too!

Dachstein boiled wool socks. Tough to come by, last forever worth the $$

I love them.

Eric:

with thier sizing, what should I grab? I wear a size 12 or 13 depending on who makes em... go through a pair of Kodiak Arctic Wool in about 3 weeks with daily wear of jump boots.

I bet that within 4 months I can kill a pair of these with a "lifetime warrenty".

Can't beat Smartwool.

I wear Smartwool with a liner in the winter and Thorlos light-hikers (polyester, acrylic, nylon, spandex blend) in the summer. You can wear the Smartwools without a liner pretty easily, but I get better results with one.

I have a pair of the Bass Pro socks (heavier sock) that I wear for hunting. It's a good sock too.

Merino Wool Rugged Hikers from Wigwam, style # F2301.

They are slightly thicker and cusion better than Smartwool, cost about the same and last much longer (I had problems with the heel of the Smartwools prematurely turning into felt).

I wear good shoes, but the socks are totally important for foot comfort as well.

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson
