Any CPM3V factory knives to be found?

Does anyone know if there is any factory utilizing 3V in a knife? Or are there any that have plans on doing a line using it?

I know Jerry Hossom and several other custom makers use it to great effect. It looks to be a great non-stainless steel capable of good, hard use while retaining it's edge. A lopper, chopper with a 7-9" blade would be sweet.

I don't know of any production companies, but Fehrman Knives uses it and their prices are phenomenal for the product you'll receive!!!!!

Chris Reeve makes their Nkonka in 3V. Don't have any reports from anybody having used one though. They're kinda scarce, and made in limited amounts I think.

"small shops" use it- Ferhmann most known, however it is very difficult to machine, grind etc from what I understand. Chris Reeve looked at it and made Nkonka but we will see if he uses in other models, it costs more because 3V is obviously much more expensive as raw material then A2 but also I bet it goes through many more sanding belts, drill bits & other tools which will add to true "overall cost. It's difficulties probably keep bigger prd. co's even like Spyderco & Benchmade away.
Not many custom makers use 3v either.

I believe the knives from the short-lived company Bailey Bradshaw founded were all in 3V.

I do believe you're correct. I would buy one of those knives, if I ever found one. Bailey did a LOT of hand work on those "production" knives.

Danbo,
You had your chance. If I may quote you from June 13, 2000: "As one of Bailey's Whitewing dealers, I have a few in stock." :footinmou

That's why the search function is so great. :p :p :p

I own two of Bailey's Whitewing knives, a stag Warlock and a pearl lockback.

I think the reason more production makers don't use it is because of what it is made for. It is high impact and shock resistant steel with excellent egde holding properties. You see, most big companies specialize in folders, not choppers. It is also non-stainless. It seems several companies avoid that. I could see, in the future, Camillus, Ka-Bar, and maybe Buck using it on some knives. I have heard it is easier to machine than D2 (which Ka-Bar uses), and much easier than S30V (which alot of companies use). It's also less expensive than S30V, I believe. The biggest stepping stone, I think, is that it has a fairly involved, multiple step heat treat process.

Ontario will be making some knives from it in its collaboration with Hossom I believe.

WOOHOO!!!

Now that's the kind of good news I'm looking for. :D
I've seen Jerry's awesome knives for years at the Guild Show but never have enough extra money to get one. :(
Never stopped me from lusting for one though. ;)

This is what I've been waiting for.

A collaboration model is the next best thing don'tchaknow?!

That made my day.

All the best,
Mike U.

Looking for a factory knife in s30v, you can find a few made by Buck and heat treated by Paul Bos at Cabelas. Ordered a model 110 and used it a few days at work and man does that steel cut.. Buck does a great job and was only $60 besides. Rose wood handle and titanium nitrite coated blade. Go to cabelas.com and have a look. Also can find more info at the Buck forum. The best deal on the net for s30v I feel. Have a great day. Knife happy

This thread is about CPM 3V, not S30V.
