Maybe I shouldn,t say fans as the show surely grates on the nerves at times .
Keith Carradine plays a fairly good Wild Bill and as the show does not really focus around him I can wait to see how his character develops .

For the moment the show seems to revolve around the owner of the Gem saloon and gambling hall . This guy is so nasty he would scare himself if he ever got to contemplating anything beyond profit .

I am sure once he is established as the antagonist extrordinaire other characters will come on stronger .

Why are you posting on Season 1?
Season 3 just ended about a week ago.

Kevin,
It just gets better. Watch 'em all.
Great Show.
Shame they are ending it, seems they kill all of the very good ones.

Gentlemen I am going to take up knitting . L:O:L

I am so far behind the times . Deadwood is being highly touted up here as cutting edge western entertainment .

If any of you guys have it on D:V:d: or D:V:I:X: (D:V:X:?) let me know . Heck its proabably in the bargain bin down at the video store . L:O:L

I love deadwood. They do sometimes annoy me with the fancy language...

If I take up knitting there will be some fancy language for sure , L:O:L

I understand and agree that the bust a gut vulgarity does seem a bit gratuitous at times . I have worked on construction sites a good part of my adult life . These guys can peel paint with their language at times . Very descriptive language and they wouldn,t be out of place on this show .

Yup...watched every episode...on demand if I had to because of travels.

It only gets better...

Having lived 13 miles from Deadwood and having a friend whose a technical advisor for the show made me an instant fan. Great show and fairly historically accurate, although they placed Seth Bullock and Wild Bill in town together too soon (I think Bullock arrived the day before or after Hickock was killed).

The final show kind of ended a little weird... like it was going to be continued next season. I little bit of a let down after all the build-up this season... unless last week's episode wasn't the finale (was it?).

I love that show though... gonna buy all three seasons.

From Wikipedia:

The third and final season premiered on June 11, 2006 and ended on August 27, 2006. It will be followed by two feature-length TV movies, to be broadcast on HBO and expected to air in 2007, that will tie up various series plotlines.

Ya know ? I was wondering why they were pumping out the episodes right away . They had the first three episodes on one after the other the first night . Now I know why . They picked it up for cheap as an older show .

B:T:W: they are showing a new series tonite . Something called the Sopranos . L:O:L

I stopped watching Deadwood when they brought in that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Jones...I along with other family members and my group of friends emailed HBO to voice our opinions on watching a convicted sex offender on this show...so all of us stopped watching except for 2 of us...I did get a call saying to watch the episode where Jeffrey Jones gets a beat down by one of Hearst's crew:thumbup: , that sickfrack should have been fed to Mr. Wu's pigs

What... Sopranos are back on?? Cool... those are the only two shows I really subscribed to HBO for this year.

Love the show but the way they speak can get lost at times. In season three it got worse, now the way they phrase everything it takes them 3 min to say close the door!

And when the ex prostitute kisses Calamity Jane…she didn’t wash her face first in fact she never washes her face …do you suppose…. well never mind.

Love it. I don't get HBO so I have to do it the hard way with DVD's. I own the first season. I would've owned the second season but some things came up and it got shelved, and 3rd shift just isn't giving me the overtime that I want. Perhaps next payday. I don't find the language particularly offensive but then again, I'm not offended by much these days.

The character Al Swerengen is one of the better villains in the recent history of films, if you ask me. He's so evil on so many levels that it's actually humorous. You can't help but like the guy.

As for employing a registered sex offender on the set...well, that can be addressed in another thread. I do not believe that the issue is as black and white as most make it out to be.

I'd be interrested to hear how defensible it is for a registered sex offender failing to register is. He's a convicted pedophile out of California and failed to register his current address, a common problem with sex offenders. Is there some resonable areguement that this is somehow not black/white? He failed to register period, it's something he has to do anytime he moves, for the rest of his life.
Aside from that, we have really enjoyed the Deadwood series. Good acting, character development, costumes, action, it's really a entertaining show, as good as the Sopranos. It's also interesting that much of the show has a basis in real history, an added plus. I don't think I've missed an episode, a good watch if anybody has not seen the series. The only better series I've seen has been Band of Brothers.

His activities don't interest me...that's the local LE's job.

The show and rest of the cast are (were?) awesome. Swearingen's character is summed up nicely later in the show.

"Al's the most honest man I know when he's not lyin'."
