I've always liked them, just something about the look of one ;) Been thinking about picking one up in .22mag for something to just drop in my pocket. I had one of the NAA minis but just didn't trust it in my pocket w/o a safety :( Anyone else like them???

I had a High-Standard DA derringer in .22 mag way back when. After you figured the length of the .22 rimfire mag. cartridge, there was maybe an inch of useable barrell. The trigger pull was long, heavy, and draggy. Hitting anything at more than card-table range would have been problematic. I did not have much faith in the effectiveness of the JHP bullet either, considering that most of the powder burned outside the barrell.
Still, a fair chance you might burn the guy to death...

I would not carry one, even for backup. There are a fine variety of small autopistols available now which offer more ammo capacity and better ballistic performance.

Stuff like this belongs in GADGETS & GEAR! I don't know how many times I have to say it! :grumpy: Read the sticky at the top of the page in Community if you haven't.

Off it goes!

Don't mind K. V., he's just tired of moving threads every day -- he's not so much mad at you as at the other couple of dozen guys who've posted Gadgets & Gear threads in Community in the last couple of weeks -- at the least, you can share the mad with them....

If you search Practical Tactical you'll find some threads on the NAA mini-revolvers, mostly from Jim March and me. Here's one on the safety issue to get you started: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273954

Over the past 3 months I have moved more threads because of people who do not know where to post some threads or don't even bother to read the sticky. My sticky at the top is there as a reference as to what is deemed Community worthy and what will be moved to the appropriate forum. I have no problem moving the occassional misplaced thread but I have been averaging 3 post moves a week to Gadgets & Gear. I had 3 in less than 5 minutes last week. So pardon me if I come off a bit harsh.

I once had a Hialeia (sp?) Derringer Works .38 for a while. Horrible little gun. Guaranteed to burn your hand- leaked fire like crazy. Couldn't hit anything remotely torso-sized from more that 2 or 3 yards away. Carried it to & from work in response to a very credible threat. Was all I could afford at the time- needed it quick. Sold the gun less than 48 hours after leaving that job.

I've shot alot of handguns. $30 POS .25 autos/ $700 H&K, some of the cheap junk guns shot good. Some off the big $ ones sucked bigtime. I have both now and I'm not asking what people think of the use as a SD weapon, hell small mouse guns have been killing people for years  All I asked was does anyone else like the look of them, the novelty etc. Derringers are like slipjoint knives , just classic. I have a cheap single shot FMJ one in .45lng/.410 and with .44spl in it I can hit you at 7yrs no problem.

Only one to get: American Derringer in 45/70 if the bullet doesn't get them the flash..er I mean fireball will!

I once had one of those 4-barreled all-stainless .357 magnum C.O.P. derringers. It was a handfull to shoot, had a HORRIBLE LONG trigger-pull, but it looked cool & mean, with those 4 barrels and smooth, rounded lines.

I gotta get me another one.:D.

Actually, the Freedom Arms (or American Derringer) in .45 long-colt is a pretty darn good derringer, as a "belly-gun".

While it might be quite a trick to fire comfortably, I would think one of those derringers in 45 Long Colt would do a great job of stopping someone. And, you can shoot 410 shotgun shells in them.

I'm a fan. Ever since I first saw "Wild Wild West" on TV, with James West using his sleeve gun to fire everything from bullets to tiny grappling hooks.

I have a Davis .22 . I payed $47 for it nib years ago. :)

Is it fast ? No. A Tack driver? No.Some thing I carry for sd? No.

But it is fun to shoot. It goes bang every time, and is a lot nicer to pop a deer in the head with to finish it off than a 12 gauge slug,or reloading my smokepole.

Like them? Buy one.

I have an American Derringer Model 1 in 9mm. Nicely made from stainless and the fit and finish are good. Trigger pull is on the heavy side, which should be expected because it doesn't have a trigger guard. It doesn't have an extractor which is a pain sometimes. You have to use one of the shell casing to pry the spent shell out. I had a buddy that had a .45LC/.410shotgun model. My 9mm has a nice bark to it but the .45/.410 was a whole other beast if with oversize grips. I also own a North American Arms black widow in .22/.22mag but I haven't shot it yet.

I've been looking at a Cobra (Davis) at a local pawn shop. It is a nice mate finish with fake pearl grips in .22 mag . like I said yeah that not that great for SD but I look at it like this derringers are like slipjoints just like a tactical folder is like a 1911. slipjoint can't do things a good Tac-folder can. Both cut.
Derringer can't do what a 1911 .45 can. Both shoot out a bullet. I don't want to get cut with either one nor shot with either one :D They are just a fun little niche. Todd

I'm a wannabe fan, I guess. That is, I love the lil' derringers, but have yet to own one.

How about some pics?

This is the .45/.410 model that I have. But it shoots .44spl better than .45lng.
also had a NAA .22lr but sold it :(
