Any difference between ATR & Ti Salsa's locks?

I know spyderco is continiously working on the compression lock idea. I am wondering whether there's any changes in the integral compression locks.

The ATR was designed before the Salsa. We've learned from both. The longer blade of the ATR created some isues with strength, but they were sorted pretty easily. On the Salsa, we use a ball bearing / detent to keep the knife closed, because it is easier to build. On the ATR, we use the compression lock fitting into a carfefully milled section of the tang, to keep it closed (like the Gunting). It is more difficult to do. The rest of the refinements were minor shape changes, ramp angles, etc.

Sal,

Why was the Salsa released much more early than the ATR, while it was designed later? Has it something to do with all the new features on te ATR?

We had a number of vendors choose not to do the ATR (too difficult to make). By the time we finally lined up someone and they were able to make some samples, the Salsa had aready begun production.
