Any difference between current and older 500 series?

I'm interested in the 500 series traditional lockbacks, mostly as EDC users.

Are there any significant differences between current production and say 80s/90s vintage?

I see plenty of the latter on that big auction site, but I can buy all but discontinued models on that big retail site for about the same money.

I'm interested pretty much in users, but if older models have something that adds value or quality (provided it's not super-collectible with a sky-high price tag), I'm fine with looking around and paying a bit extra or buying dupes (one for show & one for go).

Thanks much!

Oh yeah, if there's any books or articles on the series, I'd love to read em.

There has been some discussion on these in the past. Utilize the search feature. The series has changed over the years. When introduced they had micarta scales, a 440C blade with a old English stamp. Now they have a laminate wood scales, current 420 steel and a block stamp. The Duke still has a stainless frame. A good series. The 500 and 501 have been offered in S30V steel and up grade scales.
