Any difference in quality between old and new RATS

I have a RAT3,5, and 7 that are Ontario Rats. My question is there any difference in quality between the Ontario's and the new RATS. By the way I love RAT knives and I am going to be getting a RC3 very soon.
 
the heat treat is not the same, I dont know much about the rest but the RC-4 is my favorite knife
 
I also have Ontario Rats. A 3,5,7 and rtak11. I have the RC3 and RC 4. IMO the Rat Cutlery Rc knives are of a better quality and have better quality control to make sure inferior knives don't reach the consumer. The warranty is also the best available.
I had one bad Ontario rat3 but the rest were great knives just not as good as an RC
 
Thanks for the replies. All three of my Rats are great and I have not had any issues with them. The 3 has been blasted and the handles have been grooved to give them a little more grip.
 
The black coating is far more durable in the RC line, I feel the handles are better fitted for my hands as well. I have a rat 5 which I love, but my RC3 & RC4 see more field time as they are more comfortable to use for me.
 
Night and day.

I have Ontario RATs that I have no problems with as well but the differences include the integrity of the RAT Cutlery team and the products are truly better when looking at them side-by-side.

The coatings are better and the fit/finishes and edges are far superior with what you get from RAT Cutlery.

I can't wait until the entire line-up is fully offered by RAT Cutlery.
 
I think the major difference between RAT & Ontario products is going to come down to "Quality Control". You can bank on if RAT & Rowen put it out for distribution its a great product. Where as if ya got an Ontario that was shit...well, damn! another one got through
 
The fit, finish and quality is much better overall. I must say I do prefer the phosphate coating on the Ontario rats. Even though the phosphate would mark easily, I found it to be quite tough and it would resist rust for a long time.
 
chetmarks summed it up.....I have plenty of the Ontario RATs but the Rowen RAT's are of better quality,quality control,coating,warranty,design and you can actual reach Jeff,Mike or Shon Rowen here and get answers to any issue with a Rc product! I still use my Ontario Rat's but they are my son's now while I have the RC version for me !!
 
Like Chet said - I have Rats3/5/7/TAK/RTAK/RTAKII, and the RC3 and RC4 are a big step up in fit, finish, and quality. They Rats were/are great knives, but the RCs are amazing.
