hey guys sorry to bother yall with this but i thought i would ask yall before telling my son to head to the doctor. he is about to turn 20 and played baseball for his college. hes in really good shape and works out everyday. but over the past week hes been complaining about his muscle in his lower abdomen. close to the pelvic bone. he says it hurts when he does triceps or uses an ab machine and when he goes camping or tries to make shelters he cant really bend over and strain. he doesnt have a lump and hes not to tight he says. and he says it only hurts when he excerts himself. or pushes on it hard. not when sitting or walking. at first i thought it was a hernia and could very well be. but i was thinking maybe a muscle strain or something. any help would be appreciated and i apologize if this is in the wrong spot.

i would definately say go see a doctor... especially if it's been hurting more than a week... muscle strains/tears don't heal easily...

Not a doctor but if it's hurt that long like that, have him go and get it checked.

Sounds like a hernia. Sometimes there is no lump or protuberance. Sometimes the intestines will only herniate when straining. Tell him to go have it checked out by his doctor or a General Surgeon.

I'll second what Johnny has to say and move this to a more appropriate place.

Have him go to the Doc. Better safe than sorry. When I had my hernia there, there was no bump. It felt more like a burning deep in the muscle. Then, a few years later, the physical hernia manifested itself after many years of lifting made it finally give.

Tell him that if his car had a real problem that he couldn't fix, he would hopefully have enough good sense to take it to a mechanic.

this is his body, and he only gets one. If there is a problem, he can't fix it, and it may not fix itself. In fact, it may get worse. So bite the bullet, go see a doc (a real doc) and get it taken care of.

It could be anywhere from nothing but a sore muscle to a hernia, or in a rare case something worse. Have him go to the doc, never hearts to hear you're ok from a pro.

It certainly COULD be a hernia, or it COULD be a muscle injury. However, I don't think that any responsible doctor would diagnose such a thing over a one-paragraph description on an internet forum, without a physical exam, and additional tests.

So please, take him to a doctor. In the meanwhile, the best advice would be simple - DON'T do what hurts. Listening to one's body is usually the best advice in lieu of direct medical care.

thank yall, I told him to get his butt to the doctor today. and you know what his response was. "After the gym dad ill go see the doc". lol hes as stubborn as a mule. i called his sports doctor yesterday and explained a little better over the phone and he said its most likly a sports hernia. so hopefully when he goes today well find out what it is.
