The kiss knife that crkt makes and sells for 40 bucks was invented by ed halligan who makes a custom version of it for 275.oo . I always thought it was cool but i never see anyone talking about. Any opinions about ed halligan knives or the crkt kiss.

I cut myself twice, reaching into my pocket for the CRKT version. Then I got rid of it at the next knife show I was at.

I still think it's an interesting design, but I'm not going to trust that exposed blade.

I don't like them at-all as they are NOT very "lefty-friendly".

I have one, but don't like it. The design is nice and inventive, but it's a little bit too Super Simple for me.

I actually like mine, I had a tanto (sold), I have a peck and a Sampsons Peck.

They not serious users, but they are fun to flick.

probably one of the most uselesss knives i've ever held.

there's no point in having the linerlock there, since if you hold the knife in any position, it's going to unlock on you anyway...

My opinion? A gimmick, a waste of money.

After undergoing microsurgery to repair a mostly severed extensor tendon on my right middle finger when the lock on my CRKT KISS suddenly disengaged while cutting a Super Soaker squirt gun from it's packaging, I have no further use for them.

I had a couple. The first one my wife aquired from me and now uses it as a box opener at work. The second one my sister aquired from me and I'm not sure if she actually uses it or not. My complaint is they would sometimes come partially open in my pocket. I was using both as a money clip and if I wasn't careful I could get nicked by the blade. I semi-solved this problem by tightening the pivot screw so that is was harder to open the blade.

I can't speak on the custom versions, but the CRKT KISS is a hazard.

Now the STIFF KISS on the other hand, is a bit better. I guess if you can take a chisel grind and AUS-6. The are good cheap fixed blades, but I have to resharpen frequently.

The folding KISS does have several "clones" made by Schrade and Gerber (Simon and Ridge models). I just don't care for how small they are, and I can't open them with my long, lanky fingers. A novel knife at best... :(

I actually enjoyed my KISS knife. Yes, they are not lefty friendly, and there is the risk of opening in your pocket, but they do hold up fairly well. I used mine daily for about 6 months, and part of that included cutting roofing shingles in El Paso. It is a neat little knife, with the gadget factor, and cool looks. You just have to make some concessions when carrying it. I, myself, wouldn't spend more than $25 for one, as that's about what it's worth, in my book, but at that price, should be a fun toy.

The CRKT KISS versions are fun toys, but I never used it as a tool. Screws were continually backing and falling out (no loctite); the blade regularly overcame the detente and the cutting geometry on the blade is laughable, although for simple tasks like cutting thread or poking around the office, it is minimally acceptable.

Honestly...If I noticed one laying on the ground, I wouldn't even bother to bend over to pick it up and keep it.:barf:.

the locking mechanism failed and caused me to cut off my pinky. I wasn't even putting that much pressure on it. the blade slipped between the knuckle and the angle and weight of my own hand snipped it right off. It was reattached with full mobility just numbness. and let me reiterate that i am no rookie around knives and was using it to chisel some paint of something.

I have the wharncliffe blade version (5520K), its somewhere within 3 feet of me (in a box in a box in a box :).
I like the blade shape, the knife overall is very visually appealing,
but the lock seems scary.
Did come very sharp, and its useful for cutting all manner of packaging.
The money clip can't hold many bills (IIRC 5 bills folded over is too much for it),
because the end isn't flared enough, so I cant get my finger in there to lift it.
Trying to force/slide that many bills wants to tear the outermost bill.
Without money, I tend to clip it to my pocket or put in the coin pocket
(i had it snag open once on pocket, once on a lanyard, so try to avoid having it loose in pocket).

Got picture?

I think the K.I.S.S. design had its moment of popularity and then faded off (for good reason IMO). The design seems best for limited light use carry.

I would pick one up off the ground, though, since it would be a potential flat tire.

For light duty, everyday cutting, the KISS is a Great little folder. The design is brilliant. I have the Original and the Samson Kiss. They will stay in the collection.
