Any ESEE plans for something in-between the ESEE6 and the Junglas?

I am in the market for something in the 7-7.5" blade-length range. I have looked at the Ranger RD7, RAT7, Becker BK7, Scrapyard SOD... and a dozen others. I want something that can split wood up to 6", FFG 1/4" or high flat ground 3/16", Rowen 1095, micarta, full tang, RAT7-ish blade shape, exposed pommel, kydex sheath (would be nice), ESEE4-like choil or no choil, and a blade-handle profile a lot like the Junglas.

Right now, the Becker BK7 is at the top of my list. However, I wonder about the heat treat. I have never abused a knife, but that doesn't mean that I will never have to abuse a knife to get out of a bad situation.

Is the heat treat on the Becker BK7 "very good"? How about the HT on Ontario's RAT7? I own a few ESEE/RC knives, so I'm looking for comparisons and input from you guys.

My BK-2 is great, been through a lot together.

If the heat treat is the same as that of the BK-7, I would say very good.

I'm going to be ordering a RAT5 very soon, and have a Ranger Shank-I don't have any issues with the heat treat on their higher end 1095, though I'd take a look at the Swamp Rat Taz Rat and a few of their other past offerings.

I got a BK7 a few weeks ago and have been using it hard limbing, peeling, and batonning. Takes an edge very well just like the Esee's. Holds it good also. The sheath is serviceable, but wish it was kydex like the BK2's instead. If Esee had a 7-8" knife in their lineup (preferably 1/4" thick),I would of bought that instead. Becker was my next best choice.

ESEE needs a midweight Junglas-.125 inch 1095 at RC55/56, at about 12 inches long. Something easy and beefy for packing. Made in house...

I don't understand... I don't know where you're getting RC3 from... this would obviously not be an ESEE3-like I said, a midweight Junglas. Something between the 18 inch floppy machete and the 10 inch Junglas, with a Rockwell hardness slightly softer than the Junglas. And certainly a much nicer grip... I'm sure I don't have to break down the specs of the RC3 for you so that you know the difference...

The BK7 uses a Mar tempering. The process involved is considered by some in the industry to be the best you can do with a 1095 steel. Ask Toooj. The BK7 is one tough hombre, for sure. But, a 7" ESEE doesn't sound bad............hmmmm..........

Truthfully, I don't think they need to make anything else. The current lineup seems to have all the bases covered as far as cutlery goes. I'm more interested in the other non-knife gear that's coming. Having said that, if they did make a 7.5-8" blade, I'd want to buy it. I'd also really like to see a bolo style machete with a blade in the 14-15" range, 1/8-3/16 thick.

.125= 1/8" are close enough, the ESEE 3 is 1/8" there abouts.... hence what I was referring to from your post
I was trying to figure out what your talking about and be helpful ,you are trying to be sassy..take it somewhere else

I'm not-It seemed to me like you were trying to be smart about my idea, painting it rediculous, as a 12 inch blade trying to fill the 3's role... I just drew out a concept, I need to find a scanner

I am not as familiar with the RD7's 5160 or the quality of the heat treat from Ontario with that steel.

PayetteRucker, when I need to turn a document into a jpg, I just take a picture. I'd like to see what you came up with.

hiwa, moose, and others, thanks for the input.
