Have you ever own/used any particular knife, and though you loved/enjoyed that knife, you think that it might need a minor change to make it better????

FOR EXAMPLE::: I'm a proud owner of a TOPS CQT Magnum folder(Brian Jones, to my knowledge you own one of these), the "thumb-lug" on the top of the blade has a nasty habit of biting into my thumb tip. Once, it even broke the skin, causing some bleeding. I'd like to see the lug replaced with a "spyderhole". Those holes are so comfy to use!!!:D :D :D

Anybody else, handle a great knife that may need a slight bit of improvement?????

smooth off the rough edges on the buck/strider, and sharpen the front part of the tanto blade imho.....

one of the best production knives ever, but i would like a sister knife, that was truely tactical. The addition of a finger choil and some gaurd (maybe flipper style) and a slight swell at the base of the handle to aid in retention would make the LCC a fantastic fighting folder.

I've had several knives that I've modified, or had modified, to meet specific concerns or considerations.

Some of these are easily done by the owner (smoothing, rounding off, applying grip tape, for example).

Others, such as blade or edge regrinding, should be done by knife maker who you trust 100%. The temper, or zone tempers, can be taken out of the blade if a regrind is done improperly (normally this means too fast). Tempering steel properly for the work the steel is expected to perform or endure per the catagory of blade in hand is perhaps the most important factor NOT to mess around with.

In our society we customize cars, motorcycles, stereo systems, boats, houses, and so on. Buying a knife and then working it over to meet your personal needs and wants is no big deal, and it's kinda fun, too.

However, bear in mind once you've done so you've most likely voided any and all warranties coming from the maker. It is now truly YOURS, with all the problems that may arise from your garage work.
