Specifically the V710 with a Motorola Bluetooth headset and Verizon Wireless service. I found some sites with reviews, both good and bad and just wanted some input from members here. Thanks in advance.

I finally burned through my third 270c and this was the only thing Verizon had with Bluetooth, so I was traded into one today. I've been selling to some cell phone wholesalers and one of them recommended the 710, FWIW, as the best of the bunch from Verizon. There was a $70 rebate, too, by the way, although I'm not sure it applies across the board. My choice was either this or a PDA phone, which was in the $500 range and a little too bulky for telephone work, IMO.

On the service side, I travel a fair amount for business and Verizon Wireless has been virtually flawless from Toronto to San Diego, and most imoprtantly in Manhattan--everywhere but actually *at* my house :grumpy: My basis comparison was 3 or 4 years of Cell One and then ATT Wireless, which was just terrible at the time--this was a few years ago, though, prior to 9/11/2001. The wife has Cingular; it's not bad, and I do hear good things about T-Mobile, but I need a lot of minutes and bulletproof coverage, so Verizon was my only real choice. The new plan they showed me is about half the cost of my old one, with one or two tweaks that I'm sure will bite me in the butt if I get stranded in Montana or somewhere in the Adirondacks, though. Hey, it *could* happen!

So far, the 710 is not bad. I'm not a fan of the flip style, but that's just a preference. The buttons are less than tactile--more like a flat surface with some response in them rather than the older style push buttons I'm used to-- and the weight distribution is a little screen heavy, but the case is nicely done.

The screen is very bright and colorful, a bit of overkill that picks up enough fingerprints to jail OJ, but there's tons of options that'll require some time to learn so the screen may be helpful there. Navigation is through a 5-way pad which will take a little practice for my banana fingers, but fairly logical from what I've tried to do so far.

Sound quality is good, the headset(corded) is nice and loud( a major flaw on the 270c), the camera is kind of cool, and it uses my old 270c chargers, so that's a plus :-) There's also a good quality speakerphone which is a treat even though I'm a headset guy myself.

I'm hooking up the Bluetooth headset tonight, and if you're still in midtown I'll be in town on Tuesday if you want to check it out. I'll even give you a Bluetooth headset to trial for a week or two :D

Thanks very much for the excellent review. Please post on how the Bluetooth headset works out. Please check your email.

I am in the Navy and have always had a high opinion of Motorola products, used many of the radios and ..other gear, used to have a StarTac and loved it ...(I know you can hear it coming) BUT lately I have just killed my 4th Motorola T722i. I use T-Mobile BTW. T-Mobile wouldn't help, (Had to involve the BBB to even get somebody to call me back) and the customer service person at Motorola, while very friendly, told me " Just put it in a box and send it back." No RMA, no cross ship and seemed to not understand why I was annoyed. After this I can honestly say that I will not buy any more Motorola products. Just got a Sony Erricsonn T610, so far so good.

I'm sorry to hear this, Skunked. IMO this is a T-mobile problem and they should have taken care of you, but this happens all the time. My carrier is Verizon and I am very glad I took the insurance option. My older phone was a Moto 270c, and while I liked it a lot the headset jack would fail on a pretty regular basis. This was a known flaw based on what a B2B Verizon Wireless rep told me. Verizon did a decent job on relacing the phone for me (three times!)before making me upgrade as they didn't support the phone any more--the latest gimmick to churn more $$$$ out of their customers!

HowardForums is maybe the best resource for cell phone users on both the equipment and carrier side, sort of the Bforums of cellphones. You might want to check it out to see if there's a known flaw in the phone and a way to get it fixed or replaced, or a better way to deal with T-Mobile. Greg and I found a way to get reduced pricing off accessories for the V710 this way.

I've dealt with several of the carriers on the B2B side and internally they always stress customer retention as a goal to their customer service reps. Too bad T-Mobile isn't doing what they can to keep you happy

I have used T-Mobile for 4 years now (Voicestream when I signed up) and I am more than pleased with the service I receive from them as well as the coverage. I use a Motorola V300 and I am pleased with it. I had used a Samsung S105 prior. I always had a problem with that phone and I was always able to send it back to T-Mobile and get a new one. I bought the phone from a T-Mobile dealer so I was covered in that aspect but if you buy a non-T-mobile unlocked sim card phone and expect T-Mobile to repair or replace it you are SOL. If they didn't authorize it for use on their network they will not honor any warranty. If you got the phone from a T-Mobile dealer they should have warranted the phone but it all depends really on how if got damaged to begin with. If, when you send the phone back to them, they determine that it was abused in any manner they will not cover it. I would also like to know how you killed your 4th phone in how many years.

bought one, loved it, used the hs810 (bluetooth), worked generally good but with some static. i returned it because i wanted to purchase a bsd server but i never bought one. it was sweet though, hell of a screen. i wish you could use the speakerphone when the phone was closed. speech recognition was nice though. so i guess my concensus is that it was a nice phone, service was good, but i just returned it cuz i didn't want to spend the money. i heard that the hs820 is much better in terms of sound quality on both ends.
