Hey, I'm looking to purchase either a parachutist or a dual pro x. I honestly like both, price is pretty close. I was wondering if anyone has used the two in the real world, and which they like more. They'd both be as an edc knife. Any help you guys (and gals!) can give would be greatly appreciated

i got a green fireman with seatbelt cutter like parachutist.... yup, they're not the same... in my daily activity its just to bulky for me to edc, please note that its just my humble opinion, but if you could carry it on your belt, i think its gonna serve you well... sorry i cant help you with your question... goodluck with your purchase buddy...

(This is slightly off topic)

Until I came across this post, I was unaware Vic offered a "Parachutist" model.
Looking it up, I took note that although there is a one-hand blade opening version, the regular one is nail nick operated. It seems to me that if ever there were an activity that would benefit from an OH opener, parachuting would be at or near top of the list. How they can issue a version that needs to be opened two handed is beyond me. It is not a bad choice for EDC, but should be re-badged, something like "Slacker," "Wannabe," "Norbert," or some other appealing name :D instead of "Parachutist," which doesn't make sense at all.

I only have a Dutch army knife, which is a military version of the Dual Pro X. It has two one hand opening blades with the hole in the blade. This makes it a bit wider than the Parachutist, but it makes opening the belt cutter a bit easier. Also, on the Dual Pro X, the belt cutter is a locking blade. If I am correct, the belt cutter on the Parachutist is not locking. I think these are the major differences. If you think you'll be using the belt cutter often, the Dual Pro X may be more convenient.

I think znapschatz has a good point. For a parachustist, but also emergency workers, the Dual Pro X would be more useful than the Parachutist, because of having a one hand opening belt cutter, which is sometimes also called a rescue blade.

I have a Parachutist and found the curved belt cutter blade kinda useless until I cut and reprofiled the tip into a Warncliff blade. Now I find it quite useful but too large for EDC.

Unless you have the need to routinely cut parachute shroud cords, I'd probably get on of Victorinox other one-hand knives, like the Trekker, Sentinel, or Road Tour.

I own both the Parachutist and Dual X Pro. I like the Dual X Pro better. Have not had the need to use the serrated blade on either. Honestly, both knives are a little thick for me to EDC pocket carry. One is in my gear bag that I carry in my truck most of the time along with a number of other knives.

When I need a serrated blade, I usually grab my Spydie Endura with the fully serrated blade.

The serrated blade on the two SAKs is designed so that it can be slipped across the body whether it be a seat belt or bandage so that the person won't be easily cut such as you might have happen using an aggressive serrated blade like on the Endura. IF that application suits your purpose, it is a good blade design.
