Any experiences with Hogue Extrak?

Typically, for a fixed blade, I carry an Izula, BK14, or something from LT Wright in O1 or A2 Steel. Those are all good enough, but I also carry a folder with a good stainless and better edge retention.

The idea of having a fixed blade that is both tough and has good edge retention intrigues me. I’ve never owned a Hogue knife and I’ve never used M4 steel. So, just wondering if anyone has anything to offer about this knife, Hogue’s heat treat with M4, or anything else along those lines.

I like mine. Thin and light. While hunting I pair it with a Kestrel 60a replacement blade knife. So it gets the tougher work. Seems to hold an edge just fine.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I can guarantee you will be putting yours through more hard work than I would, so your experience has been helpful. Thanks again.

I see that Hogue does tend to do thin handles. I have this Elishewitz design where the blade stock is thicker than the handle slabs, but it's tall enough to be OK-ish - and they do a great polished edge! (Not the best pics, sorry.)

That’s definitely a thin one.
