Hi all

I have been using Mercur Futur for a little while now and like it except for a couple of minor points which don't stop me from getting a good shave but would be nice to not have to put up with.

1. The handle is smooth and with the weight of the razor you need to be careful to keep a good grip. A nice knurled handle would make the world of difference.

2. The head is a little chunky, I think a slimmer head would allow better maneuverability around the upper lip and nose.

So.......
Been wondering what this baby would be like. It's expensive so I would need a bit of convincing. Anyone out there using this one??

Any comments appreciated

Do a search in this forum and find some opinions about Feather blades. I'm still pretty new to shaving with DE blades but have a tough time with Feather blades. They definitely put a spot light on any flaws in your shaving technique. :)

I've been using Dorco blades lately and having much success with them.

I am usining a couple of different blades ATM, Feather is one of them. So far I like a brand called Lord.

But my qerie was more about the razor itself not so much about the blades :)

Anyone using this model?

I didn't use that model Feather--I used the el cheapo model that is mostly plastic and it was a so-so shaver. One thing you might try with the Futur--Tool Dip. It won't give you a knurled texture or look very classy, but it's quick and easy to do/undo/redo if needed.

It's a great razor that has effectively cured my DE acquisition bug. I like it more than my Gillette Tech or Superspeed, more than my Merkur 34c Heavy Duty, and about as much as my Edwin Jagger DE89. I can't compare it to your adjustable. As to your two points, the knurling is just fantastic--leaps and bounds better than the Tech and HD. I haven't had a problem with shaving my upper lip with the Feather.

I agree that the Futur is too clunky to efficiently shave around the upper lip and (if you're a headshaver) behind the ears. The knurling was easy enough for me to take care of, I simply used a dremel-type grinding/cutoff wheel to put my own knurling on the handle. Like Eastwood might say "it ain't pretty but it shore is effective". I don't have any experience with the Feather razor but I do use their blades. They are extremely SHARP. They take moles, pimples, skin. Name it. It it sticks up it gets whacked off at the stump. Lots of caution and LOTS of shave cream (applied and reapplied) while shaving with these blades is a must.

Those Feather stainless razors LOOK great--from what I've read they're fairly mild shavers-----I don't do mild.

The high price at $170(pretty much everywhere I've looked) prevents me from trying one out---only to find out I didn't like the shave or not.

Heck--$170 gets me 2 Futurs and 200 blades---one for home--one for the road + nearly 4 years worth of blades.

If the Feather were sub-$100, I'd probably own one already---very sexy and industrial looking---I'm just not willing to take the chance on the shave.
