Any of you guys have any experience with the smith's Diamond Field Precision Sharpening System? I would appreciate any feedback. thanks.

I have one it will work. Mine has 2 angles 25 and 20. I have used it to get my knives ready for my Sharpmaker (it helped get my Sebenza hair whittling sharp)
You don't hear much about them fm the high count loquacious posters here, but they will get the job done. I bought it as there weren't many options when/where I got it.

Thanks. ah those 2 angles 20 and 25, are they inclusive? or per side? I mean for the 20 degree angle is that 10 per side? or 20 per side?

for the same money you could have a DMT aligner and not need anything else to get hair splitting edges.

The reason you don't hear us loquacious posters talk about them is because we have been sharpening for long enough to have the experience of many products. I've tried smith's diamond hones..... theres a reason all my diamond sharpeners say DMT.

There are several "sets" you can get and that is one of them. There is also the magna-guide that uses the diafolds.

Look around, some places (amazon) you can combine more stones into the kit for not much extra in price.

It just gives you more options. You can throw it in a bag or pocket for freehand field touch-up's.

My experience with the smiths system is that the hones were too wide to work with the re-curve on my 710, they also wore quickly. They got the job done but there are better systems out there

What about the $21 system on Amazon to keep my Persistence keen and then to sharpen kitchen knives and scissors? Or am I better of spending twice that and getting the Sharpmaker>

WHAT HE SAID.
I have the Smith's kit. I have a couple of the two sided DMT's. My brother has the DMT aligner. I also got one of those double sided Smith's with the big plastic handles from Dick's Sporting Goods a couple Christmases back.
Either will work but the DMT kit is better. In my opinion the DMT stones give a better result easier and last longer than the Smith's.

DMT Aligner lawyerSam. If you need tips when you get it, I'll be glad to help you, by PM if necessary. I'll just be passing on the experience of the more knowledgeable guys. It's my turn to share the knowledge.

Singularity: Ok, Smiths is out, and so is Lanksy. I see guys say just learn freehand, others say use the sytems. Edge Pro is out. Ill see how much DMT Aligner is vs. a Spyderco Sharpmaker (which by the way Amazon has for $45 and free shipping). My email is sblaiss at gmail dot com if you want to give tips (or anyone for that matter) and places to get a system at. I do want to touch up kitchen knives and scissors and my second knife I think is a Mini Grip or Delica, or maybe a Kershaw.
