Any G10 knives in the works for 2004?

Just a quick query....

Several years back, when I first started looking at and buying Spydercos, some very nice mid-sized and larger knives were made with G10 scales. For the mid-sized knives, the Standard and the Rookie come to mind in particular. Of course, in the larger knives, you had the Police, Starmate, and Military.

The only lack with the mid-sized knives, IMO, was the the steel. ATS-55 just didn't hold a candle to the ATS-34 or 440V that the larger G10 knives offered.

Just wondering if Spyderco would ever turn out another mid-size (3 inch blade or so) with G10 scales and a nicer steel--say VG10 or even D2?

Currently, there seems to be a bit of a hole in the lineup. The Gunting has about a 3" blade, but the handle is a good bit larger (and for good reason.) In the relatively near future, we'll be seeing the ParaMilitary which should fill the gap.

Can you tell me more about this ParaMilitary, ie when it's coming out, how big? Thanks.

I'm not sure I'd consider the Gunting an EDC. I'm interested in the ParaMilitary. Is this the same as the long heralded (but never produced) Military Jr.?

Checked some back threads on this design. Sounds great:

G10
S30V
Compression Lock
3 to 3.5" blade

But wire clip??? What gives here? Nothing works like a Spyderco clip. I wonder why this new design calls for wire instead of the traditional three-screw clip.

I wish that Spyderco could at least offer both types of clips.

I still say there needs to be a production G10 Native.

I'd buy a G10 Native in black or OD. I owned a BF Native, but I just never could get into that bright blue color. Finally sold it before I ever carried it.

Isn't the Dodo going to be a blue G10 handle?? It is suppose to be out in a few months.

Blades

Don't forget the Lil' Temp. 3" blade in Green G10. Seems very stout. I've been waiting for mine for a while now. Hopefully it'll be in S30V when it's in.

Lets see how well my memory works:

G-10 in the current catalogue:

Impala
Lil Temperance
Dodo
Gunting
Chinook?
Military

Paramilitary is on the horizon
Also, "sprint runs" are sometimes done in G-10. These are limited productions of current models in different handle materials - like the carbon-fiber Delica and Police that are currently out.

I agree, if the Golden-made, S30V Native is going to stay in the lineup, it would make sense to bump it up to G-10. The Native III is a good inexpensive FRN model, and a "premium" Native would make a nice medium-sized EDC. I suppose that the Paramilitary also fits this niche. From the list above, most of the G10 knives are larger/bulkier with the small Dodo being an exception. There needs to be something in the middle, IMHO.

Then again, it's really nice to be able to get a good knife, in a premium blade steel, made in the USA, for what the Native goes for. :)
