Any of you jumped the gun and planted tomatoes yet? For once, the weather cooperated this Spring, and allowed the soil to dry out for more than a week. I was able to till my garden earlier this year than ever, and was able to till it deeper without hitting mud. So, I went ahead and planted some tomatoes. Put in 3 plants of Early Girl, and 4 plants of Beefmaster. With a decent amount of care, I should have enough tomatoes to eat, share with friends and family and still have enough left over to throw at passing cars. ;) :D

I'm putting mine in this week. 1 Early Girl. 1 Better Boy. 1 Better Bush. 1 Mister Stripey. 1 yellow variety I can't recall the name of.

Then I'll put in a few 8 Ball Zucchini and a cantaloupe.

Put in mine probably this Saturday. Should have put in my strawberries earlier this month. I've got guard duty for groundhogs, get to try out my new Marlin 22 :)

i plant tomato salad-
lots of garlic(over 100 this year 6-8 different types),a couple tomato's and a few hot bell peppers

I used to, but now I'm kinda lazy. I just wait until people start trying to get rid of their excess crop. By August, people are giving away tomatoes by the bag. The problem is, I feel obligated to take zucchinis and squash also. Not sure why people grow so dang many of those...

Now yer talking! That is awesome!

I won't be putting mine in until the first week of June in this frozen Hell I call home.:D

I turned the soil in my tomato beds last weekend
I'm gonna hold off planting for another week or two, I planted those early girl last year and they were good.
Gonna plant 3 of those and 3 best boy.

I think I'm gonna try potatoes this year. Going to build some frames for 3, 4'x4'raised beds. Some onions and herbs (basil, parsley, chives) and peppers jalapeno and bell. I plant herbs in flower boxes on the rails of my deck and in a half barrel planter.

Always after Easter I plant Better Boys, Cherry Tomatoes, Squash, Bell Peppers. Raised beds I use to have before the shop went over all the 10 years worth of rich soil that was soooo good but still the same you sure can't beat going to your yard and getting your own produce.:) :) :)

Problem with that is Easter can be as early as March 22 or as late as April 25, depending on when the first full moon falls after the vernal equinox. If you plant in March you might catch a frost.

Back home in Connecticut everybody puts their vegetables in on Memorial Day weekend. Here in Virginia I try to do it around mid-April.
