Hi guys,

I have seen a couple of nice-looking GEC knives in a few posts recently. Unfortunately I have almost no experience with the brand, but they seem to all have this "old world" quality look to them, if you know what I mean. Are any models with at least a 3.5 inch blade available? I know a lot of people prefer smaller especially for slipjoints, but I like this length. Any recommendations like this or 4" blades would be welcome. Thanks guys.

No idea on the exacts, but the 23 is pretty massive. Biggest one I have seen.

Yes and there are a LOT! Do yourself a favor and check out one of my all time favorite BF retailers.

Also you may want to check the traditional knife forum brother. GEC is talked about quite a bit over there.

Here is your first example I suppose. (GEC #55 3.5" blade)

Not large enough? Ok then how about this (GEC #65 4.5" blade)

There are obviously lots more so I will let you look around for yourself and get acquainted at your own speed. Good luck (I am talking to your wallet :P )

Yup there are some GEC's that are over 3.5in, I just got in a 3in one Wens a GEC Nifebrite Bullnose which is a great knife as far as I can tell though I haven't had a chance to put it through some heavy duty work yet. Ask this over in the traditional forum and you probably get tons of answers and recommendations.

That's nice! I might put in an order today if I see one that I like. I have a GEC Houndstooth that I got several months ago but haven't carried because I feel that it's too small (3 1/2" closed). This Viper might be slightly bigger, but I'm really hoping to find a traditional Wharncliffe with a 3 1/2" blade or so. The Viper has a lanyard hole too, so that's an added bonus.

The #47 Viper, my favorite pattern, is 3-3/4" closed. Great EDC knife.

Here's one in OD micarta:

Probably not exactly what you're looking for but you might like this one:

Sorry, just a URL for some reason. :/

The OP is asking for the blade length, traditionals are measured by the closed length.

The #65 has a 3.5" blade.

That's true actually, good point. Although the ones I've been shown here are pretty cool indeed, hard to find lengthy-bladed traditionals.

The two that come to mind are the Ben Hogan and the #23 previously mentioned, Both of these will have blades in the 3.5" area.

Yup, there's quite a few as has been mentioned. The #72 Cody Scout below is one of my favorite EDCs. The #23, #42, and #73 are also larger knives.

Be careful though. You're on a slippery slope if you start down the slipjoint path. They're quickly dominating my collection. I've almost gone completely off modern folders.

When I first started looking at GEC knives, the most frustrating thing was shifting around to different dealer sites and the factory website trying to get a handle on the size of the knife. Many simply did not list this information and pictures are pictures and not to scale. Hope you find a GEC you're comfortable with. I settled on the #42 as my large pocket slip joint. Of course I have each of the models that straddle the 4.25" closed length.

For a blade nearing 4", you are talking at least a 4 1/4" frame. Thus, the list you have there should help narrow it down.
