Got this small boot-style dagger and little confused now.
The scales made from some kind of white nice looking plastic - or ivory?
Is it the current Gerber Asian division production? Or some old one? If it`s old blade - why it`s marked "Taiwan"? All "old school" Gerbers I`ve seen was American made.
Thank you!
Sorry, I can`t post pics here, this is the link:

My first impression is that its a presentation grade guardian, but I'm not positive by any means as while I know they exist I've never seen one.

Can you provide measurements? like the blade length and overall length?

Edit: The more I think about it the more I think the gerber presentation knives had brass bolsters and wood handle scales and were still USA made, thats probably not what yours is.

if you dont have any luck finding out anything, i would be glad to call gerber and ask them for you.

This is an early boot knife from the Gerber International Series. I think it was their first attempt at getting product made OUS. Originally the handles were open (no plastic/micarta insert). They had trouble selling them, so they dressed them up with the insert and the beautifully detailed hand scrimshawed tiger (if you look real close it is signed by the artist). These came in the old orange box from the 1980's. They seem to be quite rare and sell for $100+ on Ebay when they come up.

Thank you all!
About measurements - it`s approx Guardian size knife.
Found the same one at this website - it looks like those guys know more, but unfortunately no any descriptions for knives pictured:

About the scales - so, is it some kind of plastic, white paper micarta or something else?
And found the artist name - Boucher - or Bouchey.

Richard J - I`ll be very thankfull if you`ll do it, please ask about those artists who make scrimshaws on this International series, are they US masters or Taiwan artists?

i tried to get with an actual person but all i got was an answering machine. i talked to a guy who works at a knife store and he said that since gerber was taken over by fiscars, anything made after that was made outside of the usa and quality went with it.
