I began riding horses a few months ago, and I kind of need some riding tips. My GF used to barrel race, and she's teaching me, but since she never learned formally, she has a hard time communicating what I'm doing wrong to me. Also I need some other specific tips regarding cleaning my horse. Thanks for the help, Joe

Horses are my thing so I can probably answer a question or two.

If you want to talk to other like minded people your best bet is to sign on to the listserver Equine-L. It's an email listserver, not a forum, but it's sort of like the horse equivalent of bladeforum in that whatever question you have somebody will have the answer.

I keep the FAQ, (a little out of date at the moment), on my web site. It will tell you more about it and how to sign on.

Have a look HERE

There are also a lot of great horse magazines out there. I'm sure most of them probably have websites too. Good luck with the riding. I used to barrel race too. Have fun!

Remember that you are the BOSS and don't let the horse think (act) otherwise.

Not quite... You are partners; you are simply the teacher. Bossing a horse around will never earn you respect, only fear, which will never make a good horse/rider team. Make him/her respect you, but don't force them to do anything they don't understand or are afraid of. You need to work with them, not against them.

Nice to come across another person who really knows how to work with horses. :)
