Title pretty much sums it up. We moved to MD and I'm going through withdrawals, because I don't know where any of the good knife shops are. Must handle new knives...gaa!

P.S. Any good flashlight or gadget locations would also be HIGHLY appreciated!

Mark, I live in the area and the only quality place happens to be quite high quality.

http://www.knifecenter.com/ is in College Park. They allow walkins if you call ahead on their toll free phone number. They prefer Wednesday through Friday.

Other than that, the only good knife store within a reasonable distance was Chesapeake Knife & Tool, which seems to have been shut down all over. New Graham Knives is in Virginia, but pretty far from Rockville.

I will be interested to see what others have to say about this.

Chesapeake Knife & Tool is gone for good. They have the worst prices. Knifecenter.com in college park MD is the best. The owner Howard is a good friend of mine and I buy all my production knives from him. Just look at their website, call them if you are looking for something and ask them to pick it up. There is no store, just a warehouse, but they are very nice and thier prices are great. They shipped a knife to me in Iraq last time I was there, and I got it in 1 week!!!!

I'm in Edgewater (graduating UMCP this weekend). I had no idea about Knife Center...pretty cool.

I haven't found much here...couple of Benchmades at the local gun shop? (The Armory on West Street in Annapolis).

Trust me man, forget all the places you have seen and give knifecenter a shot. You will be more than pleased. The selection is baffling. First time you go there and see the isles and shelves of the best knives you can get. It is like the knife collectors Graceland.

Thanks everyone. Looks like Knifecenter is the place to go! Maybe I'll do a pilgrimage to New Graham too.

I've ordered from knifecenter a few times and have always been happy. They have a HUGE selection, good prices, and since they are only about 3 hours away from me I get anything I order the next day. It's like having free next day air. :)

There's an excellent shop in beautiful Downtown Frederick, MD Knifeworks.
Great selection and Bill (the proprietor) is a great guy.

You might want to road-trip down to tiny Greenwood, Delaware for Willey Knives incredible basement store--another great group of people with a fantastic selection.

It's right on Market street, and it IS a good knife shop. Also Bill can put you in touch with some good local makers. Called Edgeworks I think.

If you're on a road trip, you may want to stop in La Paz down the street for some of the best tex-mex food around.

Chesapeake K&T changed their name to "Chesapeake" to reflect its more diversified product line (i.e. pens, tsotchkes, etc.)

There is still one in Columbia Mall, but they have Surefire and Pelikan now in addition to the pot-metal swords.

Their prices are still ... above MSRP.

When have you seen a regular Emerson CQC-7 at $300? Or a plain stock large classic Sebenza at $450?

My goodness.

Knifecenter is good, cheap, and well-stocked, but the few times I called in advance to order and pick up in person they told me that they were discouraging in-person pickup and next time they would ship it (all of 20 miles...)

I have heard that there is a knife shop in Frederick, never been there. You've got New Graham to the south, never ordered from, but every time I called, they were always very helpful. I have heard about Knife Center, never ordered from, but I've always heard good reviews. KC or NG is your best bet. Road trip sounds pretty good to me!

Here is their website.

Looks promising, and less than an hour away from Rockville! As far as road trip, I'd like to do one to New Graham, but the timing right now just isn't going to work...maybe this summer. New Graham has a showroom, great prices, and awesome service, so I definitely want to visit there!
