Any good knife stores in NYC?

I don't know who's got what, but Mastersmith's and Paragon are tops in customs.

Well, I only have experience with Paragon and Mastersmiths.

Paragon: Pretty damn good selection of production knives, some customs if I recall, but my impression is that they were charging MSRP, not true retail, so it was a much better idea to go there to look and then buy online (as evil as that is, they're a BIG store, they can take it :p)

Mastersmiths: Bill is a GREAT guy, and it's WAY too easy to waste time there (last time I was there, I think I arrived shortly after he re-opened after dinner... and got kicked out at around 9:10.) That being said, I at least end up doing a whole lot more looking than buying there; his emphasis is on customs, productions are an afterthought, and above online prices, at that (not surprising, but that's what it is.) If you do end up going to Bill, say that you're from Bladeforums... he'll be extra nice! :p

I'll have to check out Westpfal... I'm in the market for exact his specialty, it seems.

EDIT: looking back, it seems I had entirely missed the emphasis on customs. If those were your goal, get thee to Mastersmiths!

... about 3 blocks above Canal. They used to have a verrry good selection until they cracked down on the "automatic knife" thing about 4-5 years ago. It's an army-navy store but they have a lot of new stuff, Surefires, custom Sydercos (got a Bob Lum waaay back) and they sell a lot to LEO.

None that you can get good deals on. Just telling the truth. I used to live in East Village, the anarchy town.
