Any good shops - Between San Fran and Fresno?

I hate to tell you this, but there is little of Anything between San Francisco and Fresno. And Fresno really sucks this time of year. My condolences.

If you take a more indirect route, you could travel down highway 1 along the coast from Monterey to San Luis Obispo, a trip well worth the time. A bit farther South is Solvang, home of Nordic knives. Proceed back north to Santa Maria, and take highway 166 East towards Bakersfield, and head North to Fresno. You will need at least one extra day for this side trip, but the scenery is spectacular (unlike Highway 5 through central California). Check out Nordic's web site at www.nordicknives.com

Have a nice trip!

While in Fresno, stop by "The Range" on Gates avenue, off of Shaw. It's an indoor handgun range with freindly folk and rental guns. They have some production knives and a few local custom makers, but prices are MSRP.

Oh, if you have time while in the Fresno area, make the daytrip to Yosemite.

My favorite knife B&M store is in Sacramento. The Blade Warehouse has tons of knives and swords and near internet prices. Sacramento is off your travel route, but if would like more information E-mail me.

Paracelsus - Ya' dang uppity coasties wit your over-priced micro-brewed fruit flavored beer(SLO)and 70 degree summers; always talkin down to us dust dwellers in the blistering Central Valley. Well, remember that Fresno is the Car Theft Capital of the planet, so on your next trip to Yosemite, speed thru Fresno, don't stop -- not even for the more-than-fair-to-outsiders Cops. At least Fresno county carried GW Bush, Heck, we had tractor blades painted with his name!

You mean that when I was living in Antioch there was a good B&M store only an hour away that I didn't know about? My mother-in-law lives in Sacto -- I could have earned points and gone knife shopping.

Good news for you, buddy. The Edge Of The World was a very good shop in Oakland's Jack London Square that pulled up stakes and moved out to the East Bay town of Brentwood. I think it is smack slam in the middle of the Delta partway between Fresno and SF on HWY 4. 647 1st St, Brentwood, CA 94513, (925) 240-6222.

Wouldn't exactly call it in the middle between Fresno and SF, although Edge of the World is convenient off of Hwy 4, in downtown Brentwood. About a good 3 hour drive from Fresno, or an hour from SF.

They opened their doors in Brentwood not long before I moved to Virginia; less than 20 minutes down the road from house. Not the biggest store, but definitely worth a visit.

I have been to We be knives before, and all I can say is that if you go there you might want to take out a second mortage. I know they must have one hell of an overhead, but sheesh 289.00 For a Civi.

There is a place in fresno that is hidden.
It is at the northwest corner of Marks, and Ashlan in the Autozone shopping center. It's a barber shop called flat tops and more. As you walk in you will see a room in the back with some ok knives. Prices are not to bad either. As of yet they don't take plastic.
