Hello All ,
Just before I actually go ahead and replace the scales on a 112 Ranger , can anyone tell me is there anything I need to look out for when assembling the knife again after taking the rocker pin and back spring out ? Is it easy enough to reassemble it back together as I don't want to damage the working mechanism ? Any tips would be appreciated .
Thanks All
Mike

If you can, reuse the rocker pin and hide it under the new scales. DM

There is a forum in the next section up called Art in Stone. You might want to go look around in it. I'm pretty sure he has a thread detailing how he strips a 110 down to put stone scales onto it. I don't believe he took the rocker rivet and back spring out. I think it was more like, grind the heads off. Remove the scales. Shorten the rivet. Repeen it. Glue on new scales over top.

David's suggestion is a good one.

I would be very careful removing the existing scales as they are your templates. Don't force them, grind the rivets off such that the scales come off easily.

Don't over tighten clamps when gluing on new scales, you can squeeze out needed epoxy. I roughed the liners and back of scales a bit to improve adhesion before epoxying.

I bought a decent peening hammer to do the rocker pin and for when I did blade replacements.

It's a fun project. Don't overthink as it is pretty simple.

Once again thanks for your help Guys . Can you tell me David Why to reuse the original rocker pin rather than replace it ?
Thanks
Mike

Well, it's there already and easily cut able. I can't see cutting it without pulling it though. I also don't see a need to peen it if it's sized and resides inside the scales. If you lose it a piece of 1/8" welding rod works too.

i would imagine a piece of the right size drill bit shaft would work well as its heat treated for strength and toughness, etc. not sure ya need that kind of strength amd toughness but an option.
