Hey guys I am looking for a Christmas gift for my brother who is a guitar nut and an incredible player. Previously I have bought him some boss pedals, and a Dunlop Hendrix edition crybaby pedal with gazelle inductor. He currently has a Gibson custom shop les Paul, Jackson randy Rhodes v, fender 2x12 amp, Washburn George lynch acoustic, a few Yamaha acoustics, an assortment of cheaper electrics for parties and stuff, a Gibson hummingbird, and a huge line 6 pedal board deal that does more things than I could ever understand. He plays some country, but the vast majority of his playing is rock and metal, and he loves to shred fast paced metal like pantera, megadeath, Motörhead etc. so what do you buy a guy with just about everything, in the 2-300 dollar range?

Does he sing? How about a microphone, or if he doesn't have one a digital recorder, he can get some quality recordings of himself playing, Hell with the right one he could record himself doin' rhythm, then with that playing he can play less alongside himself.

Guitar wise he seems to be set up pretty well...

Well in the 2-300 range you won't be able to get a new guitar so let's talk accessories! Pedals and effects seem to be down. A Boss VF-1 is a great all-around processing unit. May find one used on ebay for your price. I would also consider pickups. The most recognized for rock/metal are gonna be your DiMarzio's. They just released their new Illuminators. However there are the famous Super Distortions. Other great ones are the Dual-Sound, P90,D Activator and their Virual Line. And well anything they make. Lol A great setup for tones is a Soapbar or Humbucker on the Bridge and two single coil/strat pickups in the neck and middle spots. Gives both a nice crunch and clean sound. Used on my custom JP and Invader and they're the best sounding guitars I know of. Can replicate any sound if you are good at tone control. Also if he doesn't have a Floyd Rose Pro Tremolo Bridge I'd get him one. Links - http://www.americanmusical.com/Item...HAMS0000&utm_source=shopping&utm_medium=feed&

A couple things to think about. You could find out if there is a particular effect he's been thinking about and go from there. You can also have an existing pedal modded but that's a perdonal preference type of thing, though I do recommend JHS pedals out of KC. Their pedals are great. A bit out of your range, but the Adrenalinn III by Roger Linn is unique and fun for every playing style. It is the blue box on the lower right.

Wow! Your bro has more stuff than I do and I have a bunch. Here's the thing with pedals. I generally start looking for a specific category of pedal and spend a few months listening to demos and such before I decide so a pedal purchase is kind of a big deal. Is your brother handy with a soldering iron? If so, Check out Build Your Own Clone. Kits for very sought after pedals from years past that can be modded all kinds of ways and finished anyway you want. Boutique pedals built yourself without the boutique price. Just an idea for something a little different.

I also love guitars and music.i used to get 3 different guitar magazines that I enjoyed very much.GUITAR PLAYER was my favorite magazine.
have a happy, healthy rocking Holiday Season!!!!

What about custom picks? Find out what brand and thickness he uses and have some logo/design /name printed on them. Every guitar player wants his own custom picks :)

to add to that, a guitar pick maker... theyre only like 20 bucks. you could also go like gift bag style and get a bunch of strings, some polish/cleaner, a cool string winder, maybe a glass or metal slide... the possibilities are endless!! im getting excited about this!!

Have you seen bareknuckle pickups out of England? I have a set of custom wound single coil bareknuckle pickups in my jaguar. Very nice.

Yes I have. I used to have them in in my custom Roland G-505. Sold it for a new Explorer I wanted at the time. I liked them so I kept them and only sold the original pickups. I'm planning on getting some lace sensors this Christmas :)

Hey, another small item.....it is only about 30 bucks, but there is a small Snark tuner that is the size of a single dice that is way cool. Of course as good as it sounds like he is, he may not even need a tuner.

He probably has one incorporated into his setup if he's using $600 worth of pedals. Someone said you can get a new guitar for 200-300$, but I wouldn't get someone that already owns several guitars another $300 guitar.

Tuners are always good gift ideas. There are small ones like the quote says that clip on the headstock, and there are tuners that you put on your pedal board. They aren't $300 though. If you want to get the best gift possible for $300, do a $300 gift card for Guitar Center if there is one in your area, or a $300 gift card to musicians friend. He will have a much better idea of what he wants and doesn't have than anybody else.

When you say Fender 2x12, are you saying that he doesn't have a tube amp? I like the Line 6 stuff for messing around and my own uses, but if I was a serious player anymore I would set up a Tube amp, ditch the line 6 and arrange my favorite pedals on a board. My brother bought an amp called an Eggnator about a year ago, and it is one of the best sounding amps I've ever heard; it kinda mixes American and British sounding tube amps in one package.
