I received a Lee Oskar for Christmas couple years ago with the intention of learning to play. I learned quickly that I would never learn to play via the books/audio tapes that I picked up and as a result lost interest. I have since regained the desire to play.

What I was interested would be a good dvd series that's more in-tune to the beginner.

I'm NO musician but I picked up cheap Hohner a while ago and just did my best to make it sound like songs I liked. I was surprised how soon I got something recognizable out of it, not to mention the other sound effects. :)

It's a harmonica, not a French Horn. Just play with it.

yeah, I know I could just "fake" it until I got it right, but that's not the reason I wanted it.

Cougar, thanks for that link. Lots of info going on in those posts.

I have "fooled with" the harp on and off for many years. Always liked the instrument; it's cheap, versatile, and has a unique sound.
There's a Hohner "special 20" sitting here as I type.
For some reason, I've just never been able to devote the time and effort to get really proficient. I can knock out a decent blues; bend notes, play in "crossed" positions....
Still, it just doesn't grab me like stringed instruments do.

Part of it is the effort required; doing blues with lots of bends is hard work! Also, it drives the dogs crazy....

I got a harmonica about a month ago. I am absolutely rubbish. My wife is a music teacher and I now practice when I really want to annoy her :)

I am now convinced I have no musical ability whatsoever.

Just keep on playing and listen to lots of the stuff you like. At first you will really stink, but if you just have some fun with it you will get better. My wife actually listens to me play rather than running out of the house.

A friend of mine got me a tactical black teflon coated one for my birthday a few years ago as a sort of joke present.
I didnt ever learn to play it properly but my friend who playes one in a band helped me to get the hang of playing some simple stuff.

It's also great for a laugh when you blast out a tune round the camp fire when no ones expecting it :D:thumbup:
