Any Henry Usaf Survival Rifles Out There?

Got some good info about this gun. Anyone know about the best rounds? Does it shoot .410 also?

I have a Henry Survival Rifle, great idea, poor execution, extremely inaccurate too if your lookin' at the same thing save your money and buy a Ruger MK1 pistol or an old Marlin or Mossberg .22you'll be better off my Mossberg breaks in half with a single screw.

Which Mossberg model do you own. A breakdown rifle in any brand is a good concept.
Thanks for the information guys. Had no idea so many people despised this gun. Do you know which ammo it works best on? Is the mossberg you have a synthetic or wood stock?

IIRC the ammo which worked best in mine was CCI stinger.

imho any auto by remington, mosssberg, winchester or ruger is superior to the henry rifle in accuracy and reliability, just find the 1 ya like the best.

a ruger 10-22 is 2X the rifle the henry is.

I used to have one. I wasn't that disappointed with it's accuracy, but my expectations for it were fairly low. Finding ammo it liked helped. It had a crappy, "mouse-trap"-like trigger, but I could keep the groups small-game taking size at 12 yards, and that was all I needed it to do.

OK, I did (and still do) think the whole take-down-and-store-in-its-own-stock thing was cool. Plus IT FLOATED, MAN! :D (I never actually tested that.) It really is a fun little rifle.

They are out there, but I think they are so small that people forget they have them, so most of them are probably buried on closet floors. ;) I got mine for less than $150 ten or fifteen years ago when I was managing a sporting goods store. We didn't stock them, so I ordered it from one of my vendors.

That was more than I could expect. Great info guys. I didn't expect a high performance gun out of the Henry. Just one that could take some small game, and stand up to the elements. Seeing it was synthetic stock, I took some interest in the breaking down of the gun with the storage, and the floating ability which led on to being atleast some what waterproof. Thanks for the ammo info also. Great help.

You can still find the original Charter Arms AR-7 (the gun Henry copied) for about the same price at sites like Gun Broker. These were accurate and had decent triggers.

the charter arms versions were "ok" at best, mine was very ammo sensitive and wasnt very accurate (ie it wasnt as accurate as my remington nylon 66 which arent really known for accuracy lol). i honestly dont remember how the trigger was i sold that thing many many yrs ago lol.

but they are probably better than the henrys.

Is the Cricket any better re: accuracy? I know it doesn't break down, but it's small size appeals to me...

According to -
AR-7 at Wikipedia

The AR-7 designed by Eugene Stoner was originally by ArmaLite (1959-73) -
Charter Arms bought the design in 1973 - this version has had lots of citicism - especially for reliability -
1990(? - Wikipedia also says 1980) design and production passed to Henry Repeating Arms - when reliablity is supposed have improved.

i have had a henry, and a charter, and my bud has a henry, & none are what i would call "reliable" by any means lol.

YMMV but me, i give a lot more weight to personal experience with something vs what i read on the 'net.

but thats just me............

I have one of the Armalite ones, and I love it a lot more than my Charter Arms pistol AR-7.

But, it does get rather grouchy on what kind of ammo you feed it. CCI stingers and Mini-Mags are the only rounds that feed well in it.
