Blade Show 2003

See over 72,000 square feet of knife exhibits featuring custom knives, antique knives, swords and manufacturer displays.

From 6/13/2003 to 6/15/2003

Cobb Galleria Centre and Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta, GA

IIRC, the show was created in assocation with Blade Magazine. I believe it's the largest Knife Show in the USA. It's a great way to see a whole bunch of knives and meet the makers at their tables. Ed Fowler will be conducting a lecture on High Performance Knives. Bill Moran has a workshop on how to forge knives. David Morell (the author of the Rambo series) will give a lecture. Plus, there will be an ABS Cutting Competition - which Fitch will probably win anyway  - as well as a cutting competition. And a...., and a.... well, let's just say a whole lot of knifin' going on. :D

You can click these links to get more information:

Yvsa = I truly am a lucky dog. Wendy and the boys are coming along too. It's my Father's Day Present. We'll be driving down from Maryland on Friday. Looks to be quite a fun event. 72,000 sqf of knives and knifemakers!!!

Anyway, I will be meeting with a few makers who have taken me under their wing this past year. The first person I want to see will be Bruce Bump - a really terrific guy who makes my "dream-knife" = a pistol-folder (someone posted pics recently?).

Hope this answers all the questions.

I'm not sure if Bill has been to this show...I asked once and he said he doesn't do far-away shows. I can't help but think that if he went, he'd probably sell-out no matter how much he brought with him (which would certainly weigh a ton - which is why he won't go  ).

I have my passes now, and am going crazy counting down the days...

I'll have my laptop in the stroller and my digicam going 100 shots per minute...

Wish I had a video camera. :(

But, at least I can make small movies with the digital camera.

Anyway, I was hoping to meet up with a few HI folks - especially those on the East Coast.

Sign your name here to let me know if you're going.

I'd love to go, but I can't afford it this year. Went two or three years ago and it was fantastic.(Also came home broke from buying too many wonderful knives!)

Pen, be sure and look up my friend Howard Hitchmough if you want to see some drop-dead gorgeous folders. I also recommend Gaetan Beauchamp, who does some lovely scrimshaw on his own knives.

I'll be there for at least one day, more if I can get the time off. The location is one of the best things about Ft. Gordon for me; withing driving distance of Atlanta! I'm so excited I can hardly wait!

I'm going to try. I'm heading east to NYC for the summer, and have a friend in Atlanta I need to visit, so might as well coordinate.

I may have to carry my BGRS or WWII, or maybe even the khonvention special, just to show off. I'll be the unofficial mobile HI rep.

I'm curious to meet some of the other manufacturers who have forurms here - especially Jerry Busse and Sal Glesser of Spyderco, not to mention Ed Fowler, and some of the other makers. My only fear is that I'll figure out I can afford customs. HI drains my budget enough!!!

Tohatchi - I'm with you on that one! I've already vowed to limit the amount of cash I'll be carrying...yikes!

Oh, and you better believe it when I say I'll be "carrying" a khuk or two with me... :D :p

Dan

Any carry restrictions in Atlanta? When I was in Reno, I dropped by the Reno Gun Show, and you had to have stuff packaged before you left, because they wouldn't let you carry guns through the hotel casino (strategically located in front of all convenient exits).

Not planning on carrying anything heavy around town, but I'd rather not run afoul of the law.

I'm guessing you can carry whatever you want once inside the Show.

Now, once outside the building, I'm not so sure. Having said that, you won't catch me with a decent folder in my pocket downtown. It can get kinda scary in some parts...ouch!

Saw in another thread that the length limit on folders in Atlanta is 3" :barf: :grumpy: . I'm pretty sure that excludes fixed blades of any length as well; it seems like a reasonable assumption anyway. Take heart though; the Galleria isn't really in Atlanta, it's in Marietta, on the outskirts of Atlanta. That caused a lot of confusion for me when I tried to find the place while I was down that way two weeks ago! I'm really bad at finding my way around in the best of circumstances, and the roads in and around Atlanta are far from the best of circumstances. I was looking for it on my map of downtown Atlanta, and I had to get a better map before I found out that it was much farther north of where I was. Anyway, my point is that the area around the Galleria is mostly car dealerships and strip malls, from what I saw; chances are no one will mess with you as long as you're behaving in a responsible manner. Being in town for the Blade Show should help to legitimize anything that isn't technically legal too; the show obviously must have official sanction so the police can't very well stake it out and arrest everyone who walks out with an illegal blade  .

On another note, we should make plans to meet up someplace and have a little khonvention there in Atlanta (or Marietta). I'm close by, so I can find a nice place if you all are interested. I've never made any of the other khonventions, but I am really interested in meeting some of you in person. Post your thoughts if you're interested, I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know if that's concealed carry, or in general? I know some places have length limits on concealment, but you can wear anything you want openly (not that it would be the best idea to walk into a bank with a 25" Kobra  )
