I am a complete newb to HT, but this weekend I finally got a Sony Wega LCD TV, and an Onkyo theater in a box with receiver and speakers. I got my cable TV to come through just fine, the only other component I'm trying to hook up is my PS3. I can get sound from the PS3, but the picture is still from the cable, or I can get a black screen with just the sound from the PS3 it's very frustrating! I tried all the reccomended setups in the manual but none work. Any help would be appreciated

I don't know those components, but an interconnect diagram might be handy. Are you using the receiver or the TV to mux (choose) between the video sources? Trace the path from the PS3 to the screen, and make sure all switches in the path are set to the proper settings. If the receiver, for example, has a video out that is connected to the Video 1 input of the TV, make sure the TV is set to Video 1. If the PS3 is connected to the Video 2 input of the Receiver, make sure that is set to Video 2. Step by step, trace it out.

I tried it both ways actually. If I connect the PS3 to the video 1 on the receiver and choose video 1 on the TV, I get a black screen but sound from the PS3.

The receiver instructions say to connect a yellow RCA video cable from the Monitor Out plug on the receiver to any Video In on the TV. Then connect the red, yellow and white cables to any of the four in's on the receiver.

if switching your video inputs doesnt change your video picture, you tv's internal switcher is toast... or if you are using the receivers switcher, same thing

I am begininning to think the receiver is a lemon. TV switcher works fine on it's own, but not in conjunction with the receiver. Back to the store I go.

if you can get behind the cabinet that the reciever is in, this could help a lot, otherwise, you will need to pull it out. Take note of where the audio input of the ps3 is, it should be something like vid 1, vid 2, vid 3, dvd, tv, cable, aux...somethign along those lines. now dependant on your reciever, there might be a whole other bank of inputs for video, carefully look at them, and find the one that reads the same as the audio input. I installed these things for a while for a large company. If you have any questions, you can email me sixstring82@gmail.com, and send me the specs on your reciever (really just model number), and I'll be able to show ya how to set it up. good luck~ Ty
