Any hope for flush-fit screws for empty clip holes?

I know that many Spyderco models in the future are supposed to feature optional positions for clip carry, such as tip-up/tip-down, left/right. While this is a great boon to people (pests) like myself who have a particular preference for clip position, it does leave unsightly holes all over the handle.

Would there be a great increase in final ELU prices to perhaps add flush-fit screws to all of the unused holes on the handle? And maybe a small bag with extras for those (heathen) who remove the clip entirely? I don't know how difficult this would be, but I think it would be a really nice final touch.

Fellow forumite Bill Mc Williams posted packages of "Clip haters screws for sale" in the trading post for BM folders. I' m not sure if their holes and Spydies are drilled the same thread pitch. Run a search. Maybe Bill will start something up again.

I tried mounting a civy clip (thanks Duck) on my AFCK, no luck. BM holes are bigger. I bet you could find some at a decent electronics/nice hardware store though. Definatly on the net. E

Here is a good source for small screws both inch and metric, incredible variety of fasteners, plasting, aluminum and tubing.
Call for catalog, the web site has only small fraction of avaialble products.

Hi Carlos. Not too likely. At this time, there are more than one screw sizes, etc.

Cost would probably be higher that one would expect for a few screws (no pun intended) after one adds up packaging, necesary paper, shipping, dealer profit, etc.

Perhaps after we get all screws standardized, it might be a possibility.

Screws in general present a host of problems; losing them, stripping out the thread, the chamfer required for a flush fit screw head, The type and amount of locktite to use, etc. Many problems that are not apparent.

We need a NEW solution, universal and easy to use like putty, impervious to being moved (unless desired), hi tech, (like carbon fiber plugs), cheap (like politicians?) to make and distribute.

any ideas?

Hi Sal,

I figured it was something like that or you would have done it already. I'd guess that CF plugs wouldn't come cheap other than as a CF filled Nylon - I think Bob Terzuola or Kit Carson has this as an option for handle scales.

But on the same basic concept, how about FRN or a hard rubber plug with a rounded top. It wouldn't be flush fit, but with a shallow domed top and enough of a lip to make it user removable, it would be less unsightly than holes (as long as the colour matched) -- akin to the hole plugs used on furniture you assemble yourelf. If you ridged the post of the plug, it might be possible to make a universal plug that would adapt to the small variation in hole sizes, but it would have to be of a slightly elastic material. Kevlar-filled nylon might be the best choice (look at the "Kydron" handles of Emerson Ravens: very strong but flexible).

search for "plug screw"

(Below is copied directly from the Brownells web catalog, I think that the price must be a typo so I won't include it here, it seems a bit high. They come in 2 thread sizes, I don't know the size of the clip screws in Spydies and I'm not taking mine apart to find out!)
