I have just ordered a Bk-14 and after seeing the great work some of you guys have done in regards to making scales, I have decided to either give it a shot myself or see if any of you guys posting work would maybe make me a set.
With that said, I am curious to see if it is necessary to use liners with micarta and whether or not any of you hollow out the inside of the scales to follow the lines of the knife metal handle area. I have never worked with micarta, but have made various wood projects. However, none of those projects have ever been a knife handle. I promise I have done my due diligence before this post by searching. I got a lot of useful info, specifically love the post and work by TheLastDaze concerning this topic. Just wondering if there was more bk-14 scale specific info out there.

You're just making a sandwich around the tang. I would start by tracing the outline of the handle - maybe go slightly larger to give you some excess. Cut it out and then file / sand them to shape. Then figure out how to attach them - pins, screws, epoxy, etc.

Thanks guys. I am just wanting to order some wood scale blanks and since my knife isnt in yet, I have no idea how wide the blank needs to be. I figure a 3/8 x 2 x 6 size would probably work, but wish I had a measurement.

Thanks for the link. Pretty cool with not only making the scales, but the micarta blank as well. They look real nice. Did you end up countersinking and going to a finer grit final sanding?

Thanks. Ya I did countersink the screws and did use a finer sand paper. Now I thinking about cutting the bottom of the scales with a file so that it can sit inside the skeletonized handle for a better fit and feel, but that will be later on. I need to get a small file set and maybe a dremel.
