I had no plans to buy a 940 until I went to my local dealer recently, looking for the BM 705-05/00. He's misplaced it, but knows he still has it. Hopefully, I'll get it this week.
Well, I couldn't just leave, not with so many unique BM's staring me in the face. I handled the April 730S-04/00 ARES with the black G-10 scales, the June 812SBT-06/00 Mini-AFCK with the Tanto Combo blade, the July 835BT-07/00 ASCENT with the M2 steel blade, the August 885-08/00 Mini-DARK STAR with the blue anodized liners and split front scale, the September 905SBT-09/00 Mini-STRYKER with blue anodized liners and cut-out front scale, and the October 940-10/00 Osborne with blue anodized scales and green anodized back spacer. Of course, I wanted them all. Of the bunch, the 940 felt and look the best. After handling the 940, there was no way I was leaving it!
This dealer is a standup guy, too. After I paid him $119.95 plus tax, he saw that he had charged me the price of the August knife. I offer to pay the difference, but he said "no - you paid the price I gave you and we aren't gonna change it. It was my mistake." $119 would have been a good local dealer price for the Mini-DARK Star, but to get the MSRP $170 Osborne for that price! Man, talk about feeling lucky...
I really like the blue handles, but I'm gonna have to buy one of the regular productions to carry. I refuse to carry this one! It is the sharpest "from the factory" BM of the 12 that I have, and the smoothest to boot. Blue is my favorite color, so this was a must have. The green anodized back spacer really gives the knife some class. The blade centers perfectly between the handles. There is not one even tiny scratch anywhere. In other words, the thing is darn near perfect. It'd be a crime to use this one, but this is one knife that is begging to be used.
I am a HUGE 705 fan, but I have to admit that the 940 feels better in the hand and may end up sharing my pocket with the 705. Can't believe I'm saying that either...makes me feel like I'm betraying my 705...sheez...
