any ideas on maker? (ID from photo)

Hey gang,

A friend of mine was asking if I could find anything out about this axe. It came with the family summer cabin, which was bought 51 years ago. So, it's at least that old.

I couldn't make out anything as far as a name goes, but it says ____ Axe Mfg Co, Charleston W. Va USA. There are several "F.S." stamps on the head, so I'm assuming it was property of the Forest Service at some point before it made its way to that cabin.

I appreciate any help that may be offered. If I can come up with a name, I'm hoping to give my friend some info on the company, just for kicks.

That's a good find. An old Kelly Forest Service axe will have about as fine of steel as any axe.
 
thanks so much. that is great. he is gonna get a kick out of this when he sees how old the axe really is.
