Any Ideas - On what this is?

Any help? It is old, that's all I can tell ya. The old timer I got it off said it was a mining hatchet. I told him I have never heard of such a thing. It think it is a homemade job. Looks like the spike end is welded. The nail pull is on the top as well. Interesting piece anyway.

It looks like one of does Hoe Blade Spike Tomahawk, here is a picture of a contemporary reproduction by Todd Bitler.




Or it could just be a very specialized tool made for mining or farming.

Maybe it's a variation of the pickaroon?

If it wasn't for the nail puller I would say it's an ice axe. Very strange construction.

I don' think it is a mining tool or an ice tool myself. But that being said it could be. The handle is long - about 28 inches for that small light head. Oh well. Probably just a home made piece.
