I am in the market for a new folding knife and was leaning towards a gerber covert. wondered if anyone had any better suggestions

price range or application?

Not to speak for the OP, but the Covert is a very distinctly 'tactical' or 'fighty' lookin' knife. I believe Gerber has a few variants of the Covert that would run anywhere from $50-$100ish range. Based on this ballpark figuring, I think the BM 710 would offer better quality and utility function than the higher-end Covert models.

Just my 2¢... :)

I got probably 50 suggestions I feel are better. But to narrow that list down we need to know:

1) How much do you want to spend?
2) What do you want to do with the knife?

That would be a start.

Yeah, describe specifically what you're looking for. Gerbers have a bad reputation for quality, so there are plenty of better knives out there.

My price range is between $50-$100, and as for the application, pretty much whenever I need a knife, nothing overly heavy duty

Still pretty broad, but I'll throw out a few options and maybe you'll like something in there. The Spyderco Delica 4 FFG is a favorite for many; very light and utilitarian, and has a good steel and slicing grind. Their Manix 2 is a good option for a more heavy duty folder, and the Paramilitary 2 is popular as a kind of upgrade to the Delica 4 FFG with the same design philosophy. The Kershaw Speedform 2 has probably the best steel you'll find anywhere near the price, more of a gentlemanly knife. And the Benchmade Griptilian is also popular for its axis lock and functionality.

I'd like to thank you for asking for a "recommendation" instead of saying " recommend me". Everytime I see that I feel like I'm dealing with the inbred locals from the movie 'Deliverance'.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, and recommendations (your welcome Larry) they were all very helpful. Thinking i may be leaning towards the Benchmade Griptilian now.
